Torque Specs....Professionals only use these when your dealing with internal engine parts. headbolts, connection rods, main bearing caps ect. Just tighten the bolts.

I'd like to see you torque the rear header bolts........

What's the big deal. The rear header bolts were a piece of cake - 6 point deep. All bolts have a straight shot.

If you don't work on cars regularly, you loose the feel on how much to torque. I just do it as part of my final inspection nowdays. For some people, it's better to be safe than sorry. In general, no need to strip a bolt or warp a surface because of an improper torque pattern or tension. Gotta remember that there is a wide variety of wrench skills on this board. I know some mechanics that can get within a few ft/lbs by feel. A rookie can't tell you the difference between 10 and 100 ft/lbs.

There are various torques needed to do the springs - If I remember right, 5 different. I don't have a book in front of me but I can look up tonight.

coupe, I'v done a lot of work on cars over the years and that's pretty much what I've done. just tighten them up. I just thought I try it. It's a chance to buy a few new tools and spend some quality time in the garage.

Allout, Thanks, I would really appreciate your help. I posted at the other boards also and your the only one that posted back. If you wouldnt mind, that would be great.

Randy,

You beat me to it. Thanks for jumping in. What springs did you go with?

I went with the H & R OEM sport, and Koni shocks. The car lowered by 3/4" front and rear. Iniital impression in comparison to stock, is that it is a little firmer, but still rides very good. Also much better control of "float". Need more time for break in and evaluation.

Many thanks guys!!!! I did the rear springs and sways last night and I will be able to re-torque the lowers but I will leave the top because the seats are back in, and they're tight. The front springs and sway are the project for today.

to Randy and Allout, Thanks! TL Forum Rules
