Post Top Speed!!!!!

Hi,
I am new to the forum. I am wondering if anyone has taken their TL's to top speed, STOCK. I have had my 2000 TL to 146MPH and it was still pulling, but I had to let up. How fast do they run stock? Most magazines list the top speed at 140MPH, but I already have proven this wrong. By the way, on the G-Tech I have gotten a best 1/4 mile of 15.4 @ 92.2MPH. This was bone stock at 2200ft. elevation. Thanks for all the help.

Welcome FastTL! Get ready to be addicted to this site. Enjoy.

I have a stock 99 TL with rims/tires. My top speed so far has been 143 mph and I was still pulling. But I had to slow down because my exit was coming up.

I know a few fellas in here have gone past 150 mph but I don't know if their TLs is stock or not. I'm pretty sure they will post their answer to your question.

Cool

After 130 mph it just gets scary, i would never do that unless i had lots of high speed driving experience, and great tires/rims and confidence in the car. I have been in my brother's Brabus CLK when he was going over 140mph, and it was very scary. It was cool for a while, but then i realised that he was using all of the 5 lanes of the freeway just to take a very slight turn.

If you hit a car which is going 60 mph when you are going 140 mph, it is the same thing as hitting a standing car while you are going 80 mph, and that will hurt.

I don't think i will ever go over 120mph on my stock car/tires/brakes.

the fastest i've been so far is 80-85 mph. no joke... i can't afford the problems going fast brings if you get caught by the chp or the possible accident that can result from going fast ie.. death. it remines me of a german friend that said " paul, slower is faster" and he was right.

Those top speeds sound awesome, but have you ever checked your speedometer for accuracy? On a recent roadtrip I compared my speedo to my Garmin III+ GPS and to three other cars I was travelling with. My TL speed read 5mph higher than actual at 50mph and read 8mph higher than actual at 80mph...I can only extrapolate that it would be about 10mph high at 100mph...who knows when you get to 140-150range...you might not be going as fast as you think. Interestingly, all other 3 cars I was travelling with were within 1mph of the GPS and each other...I've got to believe they were all correct.

My TL is in the shop right now getting the speedo calibration checked out. At least it was over-reading my speed...kind of a built in safety to prevent tickets.

so does that mean that all of our TLs have a slightly messed up speedometer? Cause sometimes i'm just cruising on the freeway and when i glance at the gauge, it would say like 90. Cant be right.

i hit 155 i think it was the day after christmas. as far as every one else talking about being all over the road my tl felt suprisingly stable. i was riding side by side with a highly modded jetta. after headers, vtec controller, cai, and some zr rated tires i might have to make a 4 am run.........hehe.

AC,
I think that the quarter mile time that I ran was decent considering I am stock and in Las Vegas at 2200 feet elevation. Which means at sea level I would run a 15.0 stock. Thanks everyone for posting. Talk to you all later.

Ah, I guess then that's not too bad.

Get headers/intake/vafc and your outlook on the TL will change!

Oh, welcome Brotha!!

I maxed put my TL-S at 153mph. That's with aem cai, headers, no cat, greddy evo full exhaust and aem pulleys. The speed limiter would not let me go any faster that sucks. My friend has a 99 with the same mods as i and we hit 156 in his car and found out that his car has no speed limiter

Don't forget that the moment you alter the original rim/tire size - you are making your speedo less and less accurate from original calibration... whether it was dead-on to begin with --- who knows..
