too young for a TL-S?

I've been reading the forums for months and dreaming about my own TL-S, but everyone i talk to about it says "you're too young for that car.....its a 30 year olds car, etc, etc." I'm turning 20 this month and i need to get a car....as my sister is being given my car when she turns 16 in dec......the real question is how to convince the family that a TL-S is not such an old,, stoogy car?

I've looked at almost everything, well everyhing moderately affordable, trying to find a cheaper alternative to the TL-S. Currently we have a 2000 Accord EX-V6 Coupe and a 2001 CL-P.....so both of those are out.....anyone have any ideas? I'm very picky when it comes to cars....

Thanks for any opinions......

If you need 4 doors and a big back seat, there's no better choice.

If you don't then get an RSX-S.

Look at it this way, when you DO turn 30 you won't have a choice but to drive a big sedan or own multiple cars. Why not enjoy 2 door coupedom while you can?

Age really has nothing to do with it. You should just ask yourself what do you need/want in a car? If you need a sporty sedan around $30K, then you've got your answer! But there are other vehicles out there that are better in some respects, for the same or less money.

I'm 22 and have a TL-S. The people who told you, that you are to yound are proably jealous you would have a better car than they do. Get the TLS and go smoke all the people who told you the car was for old people. What better to have when your young than a big back seat!! Just keep the leather clean!

I'm 19, and I love my TL-S. However, in stock form it does tend to look like you're driving mom or dad's car around town. Thus the need to mod...

besides.. would you really rather be driving an IS300 around? I didn't think so.

I think that a lot of us here are pretty damn young. I'm 20 and had my TL when i was 19. If you are young and drive the car it makes the car look like its for younger people. When older people drive the car it makes it look like an older person car. Buy it with the body kit and you will be pimpn in style.

I am 21 and just picked up my TLS on Friday. Before I bought the car everyone told me it was too old for me too. Now that I own it everyone just wants a ride

Just get it, you will not regret it, I can't stop driving it!!!

I'm 21 and I have a TLS. It's a really nice car. I was debating over a 2001 325ci, A4, and a CLS. I really feel that I made the right decision. I really wanted a BMW 330ci, but it was over my price range. I really enjoy my car and you can really hook this car up. When you add a bodykit and a WW spoiler, I don't think it will look like and old foogie's car. Good luck on your decision!

Never too young!

Yep, I just turned 22 and I got myself a TL-S. . . Sure the monthly payments are a little high, but hey. . . It's an awesome car.. . And here's y I bought this car over all the others... in a real quick summary

1) For the money, this car is damn good... No other luxury car offers the same hp, standard options, and performance for 32K!!!

2) It's four doors so it appeases the mom and dad w/o them moving the seat back and forth and havin them crawl

3) It's got the Edmunds 30K sedan 1st place, as well as 1st place in the motor trend 30K sedan comparison!!!!

4) It's got the 50K standard bumper to bumper warranty

5) HID!!! dual stage front and side airbags! 6-disc in-dash changer! VTEC! COMPTECH MAKES A SH**LOAD of parts for it, we have this forum to discuss it which is the bomb. . . and i think most people who have bought the TL-S love their car.. . .

6) My only gripe is this whole color matching thing with the OEM bodykit for white diamond pearl TLs. . . .

Good luck, don't mind wut others think about having to be 30something to get this car. . . it's SWEEETTTT!!!

I guess I'm border line in this topic (just turned 26 years old)... I LOVE my DEP TL-S !!!! It's fast, quiet, graceful (w/ comptech springs and sways, needs rims, stickier tires, and probably stiffer shocks. She is alittle floatly when cruisin' at 100Mph...). Most importantly I don't feel old in my car...

Buy the car, trust the folks here. There will always be nay sayers for why you shouldn't do something. That is the way of the world. We too, are nay sayers, about other cars.

If you like it, buy it, enjoy it and drive in peace....
Best of luck to you on your decision.

I'm 16 and just got my license a few months ago and I think my TLS is great. It handles like there was no tomorrow and the acceleration is just incredible. Personally, I think this was an awsome jump from the 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee I was driving before.

Don't let age be a factor in driving what YOU want to!

My only gripe about the TLS is the crappy stereo. I am buying a new car in the spring and the stereo is the only thing holding me back. I know I could upgrade, but that would cost 2k to make it sound good. I think this car would appeal to many more young people if it had a kick ass system in it, like the IS 300. Acura could have at least put some tweaters up front like they did in the CL.

Anyone here successfully upgrade their system?? I'm not talking about adding a sub or two either. The whole nine...

PS... You wanna talk too young for a car?? At 23 years old, I drive a Buick Regal GSE. I get some sh!t for it, but I can still have fun driving it. This Buick also has the best sound system I've ever heard in terms of a stock system from the factory.

You're not too young. You are just old before your time :p

If you were 100% sure you wanted the tl-s, then you wouldn't be asking here. When I was 20 , the word "family sedan" was not in my vocabulary. Doesn't matter how many horses it has, it is a family sedan. You can lower it, rim it, electro-paint it, it will always be a big boxy family sedan. Even now I don't want to be driving my "dad's car".
I would be looking at rsx-s, wrx, or a used M3, or used lexus. But I guess if you are mostly the chauffeur for your friends, then get it.

Keep this in mind, if you need justification for buying a type of car from strange people on the internet, are you sure you really fell in love with this car, or just the horsepower rating? Take a few more test drives in the tl-s before purchasing. Make sure YOU like 'everything' about the car.

Everyone told me I was too young for a Jag XJR.
Acura TL may fit me better... but I still wish I had the XJR.

Ahhh to be 19 again. It depends on what you need. If you can get away with a sport coupe as opposed to a 4dr sedan, I'd jump on an RSX, a left-over Integra Type R, celica, or maybe a subaru WRX. When I was 20 I got an eagle talon tsi awd. I still have it.

You'll have a lot more fun with a sport coupe than you will w/ the TL. As I matured, and wanted more comfort and luxury in my ride I got the TLS.

The best advise to give you though, is to go test drive all these cars and then decide which one will give you the most pleasure over the next few years.

if you live your life by other peoples standards, trust me..you'd never be happy. Someone is always going to have an opinion, especially a negative one. I'm 21 and don't even have a TL-S YET (getting the house before the car) but just the fact that I plan on getting one pisses a few of my family members off simply because I'd be doing what they couldn't. I guess people expect you to worry about video games or something at a young age and not a a $30k car.

i am 23 and am driving my NBP TLS. everyone says that the car suits me well. think about it, when you are 30, two things. if you still like to drive fast, you would probably prefer a bimmer 5 series or some higher class vehicles. if you don't like to drive fast anymore you wouldn't consider the TLS anyway, right?

and i think if you need space, get the TLS. if not, RSX-S is the one to go for.

This is exactly what I was going to say (and BTW, congrats). I'm 24 and I love my TL-S, but one of the reasons I got it was b/c I'm getting married and will start to need a bigger car. If I wasn't getting married, I would've been getting an RSX-S, WRX, or S2000 and modded them nice, nice. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my TL-S, but at your age, get the sports car, then upgrade to the TL-S in a couple of years!!
