Post TLS vs Lincoln LS V-8

I've just now finished driving the Lincoln LS V-8. WHOA! That is a pretty fine car.
There were a few quality issues but the drive was spectacular. I can get a pretty good deal on it at @ $36,000 with a sweet sport package.
Has anyone else drivin this car?
What did you think?

Yes and I didn't like the automatice tranny at all. I thought it was very clunky. Nice power, however. I think it may come in a manual, though.

Looks nice, but Lincoln just sounds old. Nice looking car though.

When it first came out, I fell in love with its styling.
But, i was disappointed by it's interior. And
the V-8 is torquey, but not fast. The car still
isn't truely a sports sedan until they pump up
the power train.

My best friend has a fully loaded Lincoln LS V-8 and I've actually borrowed the car for a whole day. The LS has a good amount of power, but it is not as strong as the TL-S. I was very impressed, however, by its handling. The car has surprisingly minimal body roll for a very big sedan, and really sticks to the floor. I was very impressed with the car overall, but I did not particulaly like the transmision. Either in the automatic or manual mode, the car seemed to shift funny to me. All in all, I think the LS8 is a great sports sedan, but the TL-S is a much better value and a better car overall.

Hey Closer, that time in Road and Track is screwy. I remember first seeing that and saying to myself that's not possible. If you look at the footnote for that ET and 0-60, they were having elevation problems or something. An LS-8 runs an ET of 15.4 in other magazines.

LS V8 is a cool car, but I still prefer TL.
If my wife didn't object to the styling of LS, I imagine the race would be closer in my head.

Yeah... that would seem more logical.
Still not fast either way... but definately
better than 16's.

The one weak spot was the transmission.
It wasn't as responsive as the TL S nor as smooth shifting.

The styling is terrific though and the power was impressive.
I thought it felt faster than the TL S. Maybe not though. Close in any event.

I like the cars styling & was thinking about getting one.I also like Honda thats why I went with the ACURA TL. I just can't see myself in a Lincoln. I have owned Hondas for the past 20yrs.

I agree with the other posts about the LS's styling--I love the agressive, muscular look. However, I didn't consider the LS because of it's build-quality shortcomings and cheap looking interior bits.

LS is a beatiful car - more luxurious than TL IMHO for the passengers - rear legroom is impressive and it's RWD. But overall TL is a LOT better quality and value - can you imagine how much dough one will spend on maintaince after the warranty. And TL-S will kill it performance wise, I think.

I like the looks of the Lincoln LS, but would never buy one for one very big reason. Its still a Ford. I owned a 1992 Taurus and had less than 60,000 miles on it when the catalydic converter went out on a vacation to Yellowstone. It was very expensive to fix and as soon as we got back from vacation we traded it in on a Honda Accord for my wife. We have owned a total of five Hondas and one very nice Acura TL.

I know that I would regret buying a Lincoln in the 2nd or 3rd year of owning it.

I am going to buy a TL S Type soon.

I traded my garnet red pearl 94 Mark VIII on a Nighthawk TL-S. My Mark was a wonderful car that turned a lot of heads..... when it wasn't broken. I am by no means a hot-rod but I had several expensive repairs in the last year (Transmission Sensor, Control Arm Bent, Air Ride was about to go). Needless to say that when I test drove the Lincoln LS8 I was impressed but afraid of the Build quality. My TL also seems smoother than the LS did. The only advatanges I saw were the 3 year maintenance (the owner pays nothing in the first 3 years...including oil changes), and the 50/50 weight distribution. I did not think these advantages were an worth extra $7K (LS8 nicely loaded with the Premium Sport package runs about $37K-$39K).

I have not regretted my TL-S since I got it.
