is the tls going to restyle on 2003

I have seen that same report...nothing is for sure yet so far. But it looks like about as early as 2003 (small chance...since Type S just came out with its first year)...there is speculations for 2004....or at the latest 2005

I think in 2004 the car will be an all new design.
Even with more HP & suspension tweaks & upgrades its the same car as 99 model. When the change the outer body then we call it all new. With this said when they redesign the RL watch what they put in that car.The TL will get some of that stuff also.
This could be safety items such as side curtain airbags or new stability control. It could even be stuff like that cruise control that knows when you are to close behind a car & adjust your speed.
This was what Acura said would be on that old TLX concept car back in early 98. We got most of the stuff but not all from that concept car.

i've heard re-design also for 03, but i heard that the CL -S was getting redesigned front n rears... it would seem odd to offer something one year, then totally redesign it after it had so much success

I think there'll a new rear design
this is what I think
they did the front this year,
they'll do the rear for 03
new engine on 04
then they'll have a new one by 05
Ford explorer did a similar thing...

Redesign for 2003
According to my Acura dealer and many web sites, the TL gets a total redesign for 2003. Everything changes. The same basic body has been out since 96. It's right about that time.

I'm gonna be so bummed if 2003 is totally different and I fall in love with that one!
I remember that happened to me when I bought a 90 Nissan, and then 91 was totally redesigned and preferred the redesign.

I think what makes this subject confusing is the timing Acura uses to roll out their cars.
For example, the 2002 TL/TL-S came out in early 2001. That sucks for the people who bought their 2001 TL thinking that there car would last at least one year or so. Why can't they just stick with a standard time table of introducing a new model year car. Since the 2002 model came out roughly 6-8 months after the 2001 model, are we to assume that the 2003 model will come out and the end of this year?
As for design changes, I think Acura will make a total redesign for the 2004 model. Its too soon for them to make drastic changes right now. But the main question is when is that model gonna actually be introduced. Late next year????

The redesign should follow the Accord's since they are the same platform. The last major Accord update was in 98. S0 2003-04 should be the time frame for a complete rework. Your seeing the same thing with the simultaneous redesign of the Camry and ES 300.

TL will not get a total re-design for 2003. That would mean that the 2002 version only exists for one year? No way. I say the TL will not get a total re-design until mid-late in 2003, and that will be introduced as the 2004 model.

BMW & BENZ came out with new updated models this year & Acura had its Type-S version. When Acura comes out with a new TL the others will only be adding to the models they won't be new designs.

I read an article a few years ago that explained how car manufacturers pick model year designations. Legally, they can offer no more than two model years of a particular car from Jan 1 to Jan 1. Since Acura came out with some of their 2002 models so early, they will have to stick with the 2002 designation AT LEAST through Jan 1, 2002. Technically they could release 2003 models on Jan 2, 2002, but then again they'd be stuck for at least a year.
Here's what I think will happen. Late this year or early next, they will start offering a 6-speed manual in the TL-S. There will probably be other minor changes (preventing the passenger airbag from setting the car on fire, keeping seat heaters from sticking on, stopping fibers from sticking out of the perforated leather seats, etc.), and unofficially this will become known as the "2002 and a half" TL. Around the end of next year we probably will see a completely redesigned 2003 TL, using some of the technolgy and features about to be unveiled in the RL. That way Acura can still make a lot of money off the current design (which is a hit), get back on the "normal" Honda year-numbering scheme, and hopefully bring more and more people into the Acura brand.

The 2000 got 5 speed tranny & new intake as well as side airbags & optional DVD NAV over 99 model. Remember that the 2002 model is out real early & the same car will most likely carry over for 2003.The Flagship RL will have its new design first a real early 2003 model. We got to watch Acura as they are not sticking to the game plan. They are so late with the RL about a year behind the Q45 & LS430. I think this is for a reason & factors in with all its cars to boost sales. The new RSX is a replacement for Integra as well as Prelude. It will get a good share of sales for Acura. When the new TL or Type-S or whatever version comes out it will be new copared to the rivals.

TL redesign...
Most Japanese cars around the 30k price range see a new redesign every 4 to 5 years. The current TL body has been around since e the 99 redesign, A new redesign for 2003 would put it at a 4 year run. The stuff they added for the S-Type is mostly from the CL-Type S. So they changed the hood and grillwork. Big deal. Rumor has it… It’s changing big time next year.
