could someone explain the mechanics behind the car chip. how does it increase the hp of the car?

i noticed that BMW and Audi have the ability to have their engine chipped. can the TL.S get this fancy chip as well? IMO, it seems like a more efficient way to boost HP instead of adding physical mods like headers or 3.5 engine.

I really can't get too technical regarding a chip other then the fact that it "reprograms" the ECU to provide more power.

What I can tell you is that there aren't any worthwhile chips for the CL/TL. Jetchip makes one, and someone from the CL board installed it about a year ago. Turns out he actually lost HP and gained about 2 lb of torque... so in the end... not worth it at all.

 

A chip is the central computer that maps the fuel/air mixture, throttle response, etc. etc.

In the case of Audi, the chip allows the turbo to boost outside of spec in order to gain HP. Other chips are designed specifically for race quality octane gas only.

The bottom line is that Acura has sucked the marrow out of 3.2 litre engine with the Type S so there's not much hope of any hp gain without sacrificing reliability.
