Tl vs Rsx?
Hello everybody, new here.
Anyways I'm preparing to head to college and need a car to drive around. Its in Richmond but the traffic isnt too bad. Nontheless my dad has an 01 TL that he would glad to give to me. However, seeing the gas mileage isnt too great on it 17 city, i was looking at the rsx which is about 23/24 city. This will be my first car and i dont know if driving a stick is a good way to go as a first, especially in a city like richmond. I love the Tl v6 but the pepiness and gas mileage on the rsx is too good to pass as well. Im kind of stuck, any points and positions would be gladly appreciated!

Tl free, RSX you have to pay for? If so it will cost more to own the RSX as you would have to pay for that AND gas

just think about how much your going to be driving. If you're going to be driving A LOT and buying an RSX is worth it, then it's worth it. If not, the TL is a great car and if its free, its an amazing car. To put it into perspective, I work 15 minutes away from my house. I work typically 5 days a week. My girlfriend lives about 10 mins away and visit her prob 3-5 days a week. That's about as much as I drive consistently, and I spend $75 CAD every 2 weeks to fill up. I believe I get between 500-600kms to a tank.

First car: TL vs: RSX.......
....yeah, gotta say that SatinSilverAV6 summed it up very well,
...........and considering that ya know the car's history makes it even a sweeter deal.
Dad would'nt steer ya wrong. Save your money for after college and then decide if ya still want the smaller sports coupe instead. Ya can save on car payments and insurance costs for now. Check the way some of these 2nd gen TL's are tricked out and you'll definitely come to the realization of the TL being the better choice !!!

Thanks for the all the replies so far everyone I really appreciated.
But to add in some info I will be heading in the medical field, which is 8 years of amazement and joy should i put it that way. This car will need go serve me for atleast a GOOD while before I can purchase anything else.
The TL has 117k miles with no transmissions or any other major problems that im aware of since the day he bought it new.
Thanjs for all the inputs.

Dad's '01 TL @ 117k, all original.....
Yeah, The TL should serve your basic needs in getting around......but in order to assure that it lasts for another 8 years, you must assume the responsibility of proper preventative maintenance. Make a good detailed checklist of things that your father may have done since purchasing the car new.
These cars are very well built and can go the long haul for another 100k, provided that they are not neglected. Right now is a critical turning point at just over 100k.....things like the 105k T-belt servicing and keeping the tranny's fluid clean are on top of the list, then the suspension and general mechanical pm.
Everything you need to know about the TL is right here at your fingertips !

i've heard bumping uglies in the backseat is bad luck??? lol i did once in my old jetta and a few times in my old 626...i flipped the jetta because of a burst tire around a corner and the 626 was vandalized in front of my house, i believe the curse!

i agree, if you take care of the TL it will go the long haul. The RSX will cost you a car note and gas, the TL will cost you maint and gas, if you want to purchase a car later down the road, take the TL drive it for a couple of years and then purchase a new car, take advantage of a free car and use the extra money for something else.....rims coils factory lip kit and enjoy college

LIke stated before and above. No car payment vs car payment. As long as you take care f the car it will be cheaper to own/maintain than a car payment and possible same maintenance as the RSX.
Having said that it really sounds like you are trying to have someone say get the RSX to justify you wanting something 2 door and sportier.

Thanks everybody for your ideas and comments I really do appreciated.
I decided to stick to the 2001 Acura Tl. The reasons for this is that it will save me money in the long run plus I can trust the car for years to come due to its history. And plus my insurance is $15 a YEAR, yes, $15 a year thanks to my dad(I seriously don't know how). Anyway I will stick to the TL and will look for mods and whatnot on the forum. Thanks again!
