TL vs. A6 2.7T and 525i
After living with my TL for about 6 months, I was curious to see how it compared to two of the more desirable sedans out there (at least in my mind), so yesterday I test-drove both the Audi A6 2.7T and the BMW 525i. It was very interesting:
I was surprised to see how similar the A6 and the TL are. While the Audi is prettier and more refined (and clearly finished with even better materials), the driving experience was very similar to the TL. It is a solid, quiet, and quick cruiser, with a strong engine. But is it worth an additional $15,000? Not in my mind. I might pay $5,000 more for the Audi (the 2.7T, mind you - I also drove the 2.8, and it's slow!), but I'd probably buy another TL!
And then there's the 525i. I was curious to see if the 'smaller' engine was going to denature the 5-series. Oh, no; that in-line six is incredible. It pulled well off the line, and as I powered out of a tight turn in 3rd gear, the sound it made as it climbed through the revs was downright beautiful! The handling is beautifully balanced, and the car communicates just the right amount of road information through the steering. The ride is perfectly comfortable, but without leaning or wallowing of any kind. It's an entirely diffent beast than the TL or A6, and I loved it.
A well-equiped 525i stickered for $42,000(although you can't get an auto-dim mirror for any price! ) Compared to the TL, is it worth the extra $14,000? Oh yes!

525i? was it new? Maybe you're talking about a 530i? Damn I love the 530i's wheels and especially their color. I saw one rolling, I could have sworn they were gunmetal wheels, stock. Could be just an eye trick though. And the clear tail lights. I guess the guys over in styling are listening to our chants for the more Euro look. Bout time.

the 525i is new this year, since they made the new 3.0, they put that one on both 3 and 5 series which replace the old 2.8 liter. and they also put the 2.5 liter (original on 323i) on the 5 series and name it the right name (525i), and change the 323i to 325i which fits the logic.
