Tl Types S: charging cell phone problem

When my cell phone is attached to the charger, which is plugged into the power socket on the dash, and the cell phone rings, I get terrible feedback (EMI) through the steroe system.

Anyone run into this, and how was it fixed?

This seems to be a well known problem. I have seen others complain about it and there doesn't seem to be a fix. From what I have read it is only with digital phones. We have analog phones and have no problem. Have you tried using the power outlet that is inside the armrest?

By the way this isn't a new "feature" of the '02. People with '99-'02 have been complaining.

If you do a search you should be able to find a thread about this from a few months back.

I keep my cell phone in the top of the center console and charge it from the power socket in the center console (there's a "mousehole" on the passenger side of the upper lid divider that allows a powercord to get up there). I've got a Motorola StarTac 7860 digital phone and I have no problems with radio interference, whether it's in standby, making calls or receiving calls.

I have the Motorola 7868 and haven't had any problems either. I use the power socket under the radio and I still haven't had any problems. I guess only certain phones have issues.....

I have a Nokia 6160 and have noticed the same problem. It only occurs when I'm listening to AM radio (doing a lot of that recently due to the news) and in those rare instances I play a tape. It's worse if I'm using a headset and if the phone is near the headunit.

With me it doesn't occur when listening to FM or the CD player.

this has nothing to do with charging.. the phone emits a lot of energy when it's in use or especially (for some reason) when ringing.. anytime your phone rings and there's a speaker nearby, you'll hear this distortion. there's pretty much nothing u can do about it aside from moving the phone further away from your stereo. i suppose in the future, they'll put shielding in stereos to prevent it...
this is the same principle they use to power those annoying ass LED antennas. there is no physical electrical connection there. the circuitry inside the LED antenna picks up the radio frequencies and converts them to electricity.. that's why tehre's all this talk about the possibility of cancer. there's a LOT of energy in a cell phone.. something like 3 Watts i think (i could be wrong)
