Post TL Stereo

I'm contemplating getting a TL, but am not too clear on some things related to its stereo system. How many watts is it (the dealer I've spoken to hear in N.J. had no clue)? For those who have an opinion about its quality, I'd like to hear from you (i.e., clarity, power, speakers, distortion at higher volumes, etc.) I'd also like to know if anyone has gone ahead and modified the factory stereo because of any shortcomings it may have.

Thanks for the info,
Chris

I would not recommend choosing a car based on its stock stereo system. If you really care about the sound quality, you'll want to upgrade with aftermarket stuff no matter what car it is; and it's pretty easy to do at that. (At least, not in any car under $45,000 that I've been in; maybe Rolls Royces come with audiophile-quality sound, I wouldn't know.)

Upgrading the stock sound quality doesn't have to mean getting a whole new head unit, either; just throw $500 at the front speakers in the form of a pair of MB Quart or Boston Acoustic components and you'll appreciate the difference. Get a better subwoofer than the horribly boomy and muddy Bose unit that comes with the TL and you'll be fine.
