Unhappy TL-S Weak Points

Q: What are the two weakest things on the face of this earth?
A: The seat belt retractor spring and the trunk lift spring. What are these things made of, string?
Any one else having these problems with 2nd gen. TL's? JC

so true.
the seatbelt retractor is stronger when you turn off the engine. i take off my belt when i turn the car off now. it works better.

the trunk lift is a joke, on the 1.7el ( civic i guess) it pops all the way up.
on my tl with the heavy spoiler i get just enough of a pop so i can lift it manually.

Dont wear you seat belt or open your trunk

I hit the trunk pop and mine slams open. (though i have a hydraulic hood support attached to it)

seatbelt i agree with you on that it has to be straight and not twisted to work even decent.

my trunk will move around a inch when i pop it, but thats the way i like it. sometimes i dont want other people around me looking at what i have in the trunk!!

My trunk opens about 1/2", due to my spoiler. I don't mind this, I actually think it's better than just flying open.

Not a problem with either. I don't have a spoiler and my seat belt works fine.

nitrous is a form of forced induction and can be hooked up in less than a day.

my seatbelt didn't retract all the way, i kept slamming it in the door by accident. dealer replaced it and the new one is fine.

I am very curious about those trunk struts, Anyone have a part number/info on this?

true..question, how safe is nitrous? cuz i've heard about blowing motors and such with it.. and whats the difference between wet, and dry? i saw that you had a dry kit installed and the numbers you've pulled are amazing

nitrous is as safe as any other FI system out there. as long as u have enough fuel that it demands your are going to be fine. ppl blow their motors be they but a big shot on and dont tune the car so they run really lean. im running lean bc it was the first time i did the 100shot and never shot it again after i saw my A/F ratio. now im getting a tune and have it done properly

so in other words, hooked up in less than a day is only part of the story. Also it is not forced induction. It is a second fuel to modify combustion properties.

you can climb into your trunk, use something long like a 1/2" breaker, and put your torsion springs for the trunk onto the other setting. By default they are on the lesser of the two. Then your trunk will pop up a bit more for you. Also the Kris method would surely work (might try starting with replacing the ones under your hood and using the old ones in the trunk being that it requires much less to open) and lastly order the stronger torsion springs that come with the oem spoiler.

To name a few...

1. Leather quality is pretty poor.
2. Inability to enter the radio codes without taking apart the entire center console and removing the radio.
3. soft exterior clearcoat
4. rims easily scuffed from curb(e.g. my wife's parking attempts)
5. premium fuel requirement

I have issues with the seat belt recractor....it usually requires my assistance in rolling it back in.

I had that issue but noticed that it only happened on copied CDs (poor quality), can you confim if that happens on Original CDs too in your case?

my issue was fixed once I started using better quality CDs and installed and IPOD adapter.

I like the way the trunk is, it doesn't open up but becomes unlocked. I don't want it to open up for everyone to see what's inside without me standing right there.

what car are you comparing this leather too? it also depends on how you take care of it.

as for #2, i completely know what you mean, that is the dumbest thing ive seen. that you have to remove the antennae to enter the code. good thing i can pull my whole center console out in 5 minutes now

Yup...happens with both original CD's and burned ones in my stereo.

I prefer a trunk that pops open a bit more and have some resistance to closing. We've got a lot of windy weather here and I have almost decapitated my head a few times.

Agree with better rotors that does not warp as easily.
