Post TL-S six speed manual hard to drive in SF.

It just occured to me that Acura needs to change the parking brake location so that it can be activated by hand, if it wants to create a manual TL-S.

Otherwise, the car will be hard to drive in SF hilly roads.

Yes, I know, it can be done, but, it'll painfull, since you need to slip the clutch and match the rpm or have three legs.

That is, unless, it has a hill climb feature.

I know there used to be some MB 300 E with foot operated parking brake, and manuals transmission back in 1986. I wonder if this is the reason it didn't sell well.

SO if you had to drive up in the City, why would even get a nice car in the first place? Let alone manual. I don't ever plan on taking my car up there during the day, just too many hazards.

I have taken it up there at night before, and that was ok. And if I had a manual, that would be ok at night too.

The location of the E-brake is kinda strange, but it sure does help with the looks of the interior. I rode with my buddy in his Lude the other day and the e-brake in the middle just seems like it takes up waaay too much room. But for a manual, that might be what they'll have to do..

My Dad's Toyota truck is a manual, and every time I tried to drive it and had to use the e-brake, it was about the same place as our hood release lever is, and you have to pull it out towards you. Who knows, they may be able to think of something..

Mods? What mods? I can't afford mods, I'm getting married!!
Vin says 2001, but it's really a 2000 with an upgraded cupholder!!

The design is a compromise, so that you have a place for cupholders.

With automatic, this is a non-issue, altough some people still prefer the between the seats location (for hand brake induced slidding).

I took the TL to the city often. But, a lot of times, I prefer to drive the Integra, if I am by myself. Easier to park, no worry about dings, etc. (Well, I am still worry about dings on it, but, not that paranoid).

It can't be that hard to do. The Accord's parking break is in the center. And a TL is 40% a Honda Accord.

Mercedes foot-operate parking brake has seperate "puller" to release the parking brake, not the "step-on-it-like-Chrysler" parking brake we have on our TL-S. But I can imagine that it's gonna be HARD to drive around with all the hills......

Subarus from the early 90s had a hill brake feature. The car would detect that you were facing uphill and lock the rear brakes, allowing you to take your time with letting out the clutch. I can see Acura doing something like that vs. reworking the center console.

How about heel-and-toe -- granted 80% of the people don't know how to do it, but people do learn quick.

Also, nothing like a good handbrake for those times when you have a tailgater sitting within 1/4" of your bumper and you don't feel like smoking the clutch!

Had a talk with my dealer yesterday. Seems that there is talk of a Manual for the CL Type S , FIRST. Then they'll go to the TL Type S. It could be a year or two before it goes into the TL's.

Hopefully that will give us some rest. Does anyone know information to the contrary ??
Let me know since I may just be having the wool pulled over my eyes.
