TL-S scared me Sunday!!!

Sunday I went out to my car to go home. I put my key in and turned it. My next thought was WTF! The car wouldn't start. It turnd over, but seemed like it wasn't getting gas or ignition. This thing is brand new with 1800 miles and only 2 payments have been made. I tried three more times without removing the key. Then I pulled the key out and thought what the hell am I going to do. This sucks. Great reliability!! (sarcastically) Anyway, I thought I would give it another try. Bam, it worked! Thank god. I called my service tech Monday and he gave me some BS about the chip in the key didn't pick up the signal therefore wouldn't start. I find that a little hard to believe, because my friend with his S2000 has never encountered that problem. Seems like an excuse because he had no idea why it would do such a thing.
Oh well, I thought I'd share....

What the service rep said has some truth behind it. My moms 2000 Buick Century, my dads 540 and my old contour hae encountered key chip problems. All we did was switch to the spare and go to the dealer and get either a newly programed one or had them reprogram the one we had. Dont sit on the same key for too long though, because after a whi;e hat key wll not start the car at all and you will get stuck, so go to the dealer and make them re pregram or give you a new key.

He offered to reprogram it. I guess I might do that during lunch or something.

What the tech saying is true. Same thing happens to me in my previous Maxima. All the tech does is reprogram the keys and it will work fine.

Do you have anything in your keychain that may interfere with the chip? Like a Mobile speedpass?

Nope!

I don't need very many keys therefore all I have is my remote and the car key. I really don't carry my other keys unless I think I might need them. The Tech asked me that too.

It could have been the imobilizer system not geting the code from the key like the dealer said. The owners manual will tell you this like if you have to many other keys on the ring. Some key rings can also cause problems of not letting the signal pass.

Yep....but above you'll see I don't have any other keys on my key chain besides the actual car key itself. Plus I find it hard to believe because the key was in the ignition for a couple of minutes while I was trying to start it. Leaving ample time for it to pick up the signal. Even if the freq. was off a little you would think it would do it more than just that once. Oh well... I don't know.

I had an Accord EX V6 for 3 years and 115000 miles and never had a problem like that. At least not that I thought was due to the chip in the key. The only time I had trouble starting it was when I was very low on gas and had the car parked on a steep hill with the nose pointing downhill.

I don't know either just guessing also. I never had that problem in 18months of ownership with my TL.
