Angry Tl-S Got Stolen!

My 02 TL-S got stolen. I got a flat and left it in a parking lot since I did not have a spare. Came back in the morning and the car was gone. Last thursday night was the last time I saw the car and no word yet from the cops. So yeah sucks.

My guess is it was towed. Someone who wanted to steal it would have had to fix the flat.

chances are it was just towed... check with who runs the parking lost and ask them the tow service used... don't wait to much longer as it is gonna cost you more the longer you wait.

If you took out the spare tire to save weight, lesson learned.

Sorry to hear about that bro, follow indoMFP's advice and call the tow serviced used in those parking lots.

I didn't notice that it was a week. 99.9% it was towed. I don't think they have to notify you immediately. Even so, they would usually just send the registered owner a letter of intent - letting them know that the car will be sold if not picked up.

Yeah I asked the business nearby they said they did not really know anything about it. I called all the major tow companies in town with impound yards and they said they did not have it. The police told me they have to be notified within an hour of car being towed and they advised me to fill out the stolen car report as it did not show in their system after a day. Even if it was towed I think I should have at least gotten a letter or something in the mail from the tow company or at least a call. I guess I am just playing the waiting game now. And I agree about the part of the flat having to be fixed to take it I am kind of perplexed on that. Thanks for the well wishes everyone! And my flat was just rotted out last time I used it. Should have replaced it never got around to it. Wow my 500th post.

Because of the immobilizer and anti theft system, most thieves will just tow this car if they are going to steal it so the flat wouldn't matter to them at that point.

Good luck finding her in one piece

The OP said he called around and no one has it ... it's probably been 'chopped up into pieces and most parts sold on the back market ... (not the AZ black market ... but the 'real' black market). Hope your car gets found in 1 piece.

Wow J~
I read the thread title and went- yeah yeah another tl--- then I saw who posted it--
yikes man! I extend my official- thats a bummer--- to you!
Please tell us the car was fully insured with comprehesive coverage for theft!!!
Then your next thread will be -how to document with azine threads, how much was extra value in parts that you had on it etc.

In the parking lot- there will be a sign that says the name of the Tow company that has authority to remove cars after the time stated on the sign- 24 hours-72 hours- no overnight parking etc. They also tow cars in parking lots when driver is arrested (like DUI) (NOT IMPLYING THIS HAPPENED TO OP) and car will exceed parking lot time rules.

While OP has called around- its worth a check of the parking lot in question for the actual sign and get the name and number, see if somehow your car was the one ~lost in the system~ and wasnt on their computer or didnt get reported to the police.
Filing the Police report and checking back with them- figuring `computer ate my homework`~ maybe they will show something now.
If insured- you are showing Due Diligence and can push for replacement money

speaking of$
Did you owe money and not make payments? My neighbor wondered why a tow truck was towing away his truck,,, it seems the finance company has a policy- a few months of no pay, equals no play!!!

Now I have to try the tiny spare with the 18s, and see if the car will even drive!!
Already made sure 5 stock lug nuts are with the jack tools!!

To others with a nice looking car....call AAA and have it taken home
Deal with the flat in your driveway!

Yeah thanks man I will check the parking lot see if there is a sign there. I do owe money but I have been current on my payments. I am fully insured and owe a little less then the car is worth I believe so hopefully if it does not turn up it will just get payed off. Thanks everyone. And the tire was really flat maybe even blown out as the car was making a horrible noise like I was riding on the rim. I tried to go a block or 2 but just got scared and said screw it and parked.

That really sucks man. I really hope they find it. My dads oddessy was stolen like 4 years ago and the cop told him after they got there 2 hours later that they will most likely never find the van. Its probley already on a crate to china.

Well they recovered the car. Looks like a bit of a joy ride. Front wheel is down to the rim pretty much. Rear tire is flat. Sub and amp gone. Surprisingly no real damage inside the car. So far estimate on just the external stuff is like $2500 but insurance should be taking care of it we will see. Not sure where they recovered it from no one has really told me anything I only got to see the car at the tow yard then asked insurance to pick it up. Hopefully they fix it up soon I miss the car I have been driving my really slow old ford ranger.

Glad to hear that you got her back..stupid people! Make sure you have the drivetrain, suspension etc look over closely, if they drove it around with a front flat (like it sounds like) that put a lot of stress on the drivetrain - not to mention they probably wasn't the sort of careful driver a owner would have been.

Just my

Thats great
And your insured!!!--I'm curious- did you ever go check the area looking for the car yourself?

The roving car theft gang probably saw it sitting there after hours, got in and heard that same bad noise, so they hit a dark side street-- and had the van following them loaded with the easy sell/trade stereo stuff,,, and gone in 60 seconds or less!!!
Or- they tried to tow it with the flat and got it as far as needed for the strip
How Ironic- You live in Vegas- and your Car got Stripped~

Sounds like new rims and tires plus check those control arms and all the steering suspension axle/bearing stuff carefully. Maybe new ignition steering assembly...

You could seafoam the Ranger in the meantime~

Thanks all. Yeah Tom I have been seafoaming the ranger . It helped too she has just a bit more pickup and is a little smoother running the 2 oz a gallon in the gas tank really helped. The body shop they took it to is a dodge dealership honestly looked a little ghetto but after talking to the mechanic there he seems to know his stuff. I asked about the control arm and all that stuff and he said they would definitely check it out since riding on the rim might have jacked some of that up. And yeah me and my dad checked around for a while and never saw her not sure where she was.

the 02's dont have onstar? Coulda called them and had them locate the car or same thing with the low jack. Sux about your car and thankfully you got it back. My 01 was stolen and someone stripped it and burnt it to a crisp. Stole like 6 VIN plates and my tags as well. Pretty crazy stuff.

Holy crap that nuts. I don't think I had OnStar. You have to pay don't you? I got the car used and they never mentioned onstar.

No i odnt pay for it. If ever im in an emergency or the car is stolen the can track it by having Onstar locate it but to use the actual service you have to pay a service fee. My rear view has all the buttons on it and the Onstar logo. I have an 03 though. You'll know if you have an Onstar vehicle when you look at the rear view. I wish I had it on my 01 TLP cause it was missing for 2 days and they found it on fire. Said it had been been burning for probably more than 24 hours.

I would say yes. My friend's CL-S got stolen a few years ago and there was not even a sign of forced entry. I didn't really see any damage but my inspection was pretty brief I had to get back to work and was just really bummed out so they may have messed up the steering column not sure. I just hope to get her back soon and I figure I am going to keep her for a while. She is due for 105k maintenance so I may just have the lightweight pulley put in at the same time.
