OK, it varies. Many dealers charge for different things. Best thing to do is print out the acura recommended services and take that to your dealer to ensure they dont add on any unecessary items to an already over priced service.

OK, here is the list from the owners link web site for the 30k service:

Services to be performed:
Replace engine oil.
Rotate tires. Follow the pattern shown in the Owner's Manual. Check tire inflation and condition.
Adjust valves if noisy.
Inspect front and rear brakes.
Check pads and discs for wear (thickness) and damage.
Check calipers for leaks and check tightness of mount bolts.
Check brake lining (or shoes) for cracking, glazing, wear and contamination.
Check parking brake adjustment. Should be fully applied within 2 to 4 clicks.
Inspect tie-rod ends, steering gearbox and rack boots.
Check steering linkage for looseness.
Check fluid lines for damage and leaks.
Inspect suspension components.
Check bolts for tightness.
Check condition of ball joint boots for deterioration and damage.
Inspect driveshaft for cracks and check boot bands for tightness.
Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS). Check the master cylinder, proportioning controlvalve and ABS modulator for damage and leakage.
Check all fluid levels, condition of fluids and check for leaks. If needed, add transmission fluid, engine coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and windshield washer fluid.
Inspect cooling system hoses and connections.
Check for damage, leaks and deterioration.
Check for proper fan operation.
Inspect exhaust system. Check catalytic converter heat shield, exhaust pipe, and muffler for damage, leaks, and tightness.
Inspect fuel lines and connections. Check for leaks.
Replace air cleaner element.
Inspect and adjust drive belts.
Replace air conditioning filter.

Seems like a lot of words and service for the money right??? Not really. Take away all of the sentences that begin with check/inspect and you are left with:

Replace engine oil.
Rotate tires. Follow the pattern shown in the Owner's Manual.
Replace engine oil filter.
Replace air cleaner element.
Replace air conditioning filter.

Now lets break down the pricing for this service:

Oil and Filter change - 30.00
Air cleaner replacement - 12.00 changing it yourself
Air Condition Filter - 22.00 for both. Instructions for changing them yourself are on this board.

I see a total cost of 64.00 for all of the "service" that is being done to the car. Not so much of a bargain any more to have the Acura service techs "check and inspect" a car with only 30k on it.

Food for thought.

seems like it would make sense to have them adjust the drive belts and check/adjust the valves only. what a waste. I'm at 35 k and have not taken it for my 30k service yet, just wanted an oil change, the service manager tried telling me it is "very important" to get this one done and "highly recommended" i don't skip it. nice try. My only hangup is the piece of mind you get with a $30,000 car by having a tech work on it, at least while it is still under warranty. Its a double edged sword really, but such is the whole industry with the cost a dealer charges to "check and inspect" I wish I got $70 an hour to look at a car.

dont bother doing it at the dealer..if they are like the majority of other acura dealers....they never do the checking or 'inspecting' part.....they just write a few checks on the 'car report card' and do an oil change and rotate tires...well thats what ive seen so far.....i went for an oil change at a local acura dealer and they gave me a report card of things that was supposedly done along with the oil change.....like check this and that....i saw them change the oil and drive my car to the front parking lot to get picked up.....never even saw them inspect jack ****....granted i wasnt going to pay for the inspecting and it was done out of courtesy....but why even bother handing me a piece of paper stating that it was done??????

R10, I'm going to Duval for my 30k I called and they said $319.00 so how was yours $189? Proctor Acura here is $469. That's why I was traveling to Jax.

$300 something sounds about right. Anything more then the low $300 would be too much.

That's pretty true huh? Thanks a lot for your input.

On another note, i was just wondering that if under warranty arent we supposed to be getting these services for free? My bros benz gets free service, and then they give him a car for free until his cars ready for pickup. I guess thats the diff between a japanese car company and a german car company

Can anyone comment on whether or not we should be getting our services for free if we got warranty?

Another difference between the German and Japanese companies is that German cars tend to spend more time in service than Japanese ones so they kind of have to offer the full service with loaner to stay competitive.

When you spend "Benz" money the maintenance sure should be free. And I do believe their trips to the dealer are more frequent. Him getting a free car is the same courtesy that Acura gives, it's called a LOANER

Audi, BMW and Merc are now selling cars with full scheduled maintenance for the first 4/50 as vandy said, to stay competitive with their product.

As far as going elsewhere, nah. I trust my service department to take care of what is wrong without screwing with me. H=ll, I pulled up for my 45k service today and the guy sees I had a driving light out (I did not know this-must have just happened) and he is actually replacing the bulb under warranty! How about that?

how do u shut that light off
Do a search or open your owner's manual and behold!

At the dealer or at JiffyLube??? That is high at either place...Very high...

no where in the purchase order for these cars does it state that maintenance service is/should be free. The warranty is just that...an insurance policy against something going very bad with the car. All of the maintenance and minor repair work are for the owner to take care of. You can take your car to any respectable shop and there will be no issue with warantee invalidation based on neglect of the car. I know this to be a fact.

As far as the Q before regarding turning the maintenance light off...do a search. I just replied to this question earlier this morning.

Thanks,
Axe

As posted above, do the work yourself. You'll save a ton of money and gain more knowledge about the car. There are enough DIY's on this forum to get the job done.
