Talking TL-S acceleration 0-60 MPH

Any estimates on how fast the TL-S will accelerate from 0-60? Also, I think I heard that the TL-S will be 100 pounds or so lighter than the CL-S. Is this true?

Yes, it will be lighter by 100lbs. or so. I don't think any performance numbers have been released yet but I can't imagine it being too much faster then the CL-S.....

Acura is publishing 6.57sec. 0-60 for the CL Type-S on their website, so I would imagine once the TL-S comes out, similar tests will be run and the 0-60 should be close to the CL-S.

Cool

If the TL-S is 100 lbs lighter, then I would think the TL will be slightly faster. I have read that every 100 lbs off the weight of a vehicle is the same as adding 10 HP. Let's see: remove spare tire, mats etc. I could get 300 HP from a TL!

jh - the 100/10 is my spec and it is just about right. Here is another option - I picked up 20 HP by throwing myself out of the window - the car really took off, I'm here to tell ya!

I can't stand the type s' performance. At least the tl is supposed to drive like a family sedan, but with 260 horsepower, isn't it kind of embarassing to lose to most cars with significantly less horsepower? I think I may go used M3 when the time comes. Don't get me wrong, the 3.2 is the smoothest car I've driven, (besides my dad's Deville), but if they make a type S, shouldn't the S imply some kind of sporty performance?

To consider 0-60 times as the only indicator of "sporty performance" is very naive. Cornering and handling, 50-70 mph acceleration, top gear acceleration, and braking are much more important indicators of sporty performance.

In addition to phatboy's post, read the link from my post above... the CL Type-S outperformed several big name cars (BMW, Volvo, etc.) so unless you come up against a brand new M3, you should have the edge on most cars. Plus, with a couple of mods (headers, exhaust, V-AFC) you can be well over 300HP and eating other cars for lunch. And since the TLS is a 4 door CLS, expect similar or identical performance....

no way a apex v-afc, and a few bolt on will give you 40+ hp. but to defend your point, if anyone really wanted a fast car, why dont they just put out and buy a camaro SS or something in that nature.

Hmmm... Lets see here. A TL is an Acura, and a Camaro is a Chevy. Besides, the TL is a great value....all the features and stuff

GOD, you completely missed his point, domedog. Obviously he was not talking about an M3, as his message clearly states.

His message states most BMW's & Volvos other than new E46 M3. I have the E36 M3 so I believe he is dogging on my ride. I'm not trying to start anything, just standing up for my car.

Ive looked at the new M3, Audi A4 1.7T, Volvo S60 and the TLS. If "money were no object", which unfortunately is not the case with me, I would go for the M3, no question! I Drove the Audi, like it VERY MUCH, but still too much $$ and a bit too high strung for the wife. The Volvo was was excellentlly built and solid but just seemed bland. The M3 is by far the best from a sports car standpoint, just too many $$$$$$! The TLS is solid, quick, stylish, fits my budget and the wife can drive it! In my estimation, one couldnt go wrong with any of the cars above, just personal preference and wallet width that dictates the choices.

The lack of performance in the TL (even the Type S) is mainly because of the transmission - if it had a 6 speed manual it it, it should be able to do high 5's for a 0-60. With more aggressive rubber, it's cornering should improve significantly.

Lolotf......You need to add one of those throttle kills that are attached to your wrist, like on personal water craft.

Where are you gettting this info? Acura itself says that the TL is actually 13 pounds heavier than the CL P, so wouldn't you assume that with the same mods as the CLS the TLS would be 13 pounds heavier? Makes sense to me

If "money were no object", I won't even consider the M3. I would go for 911 turbo, Ferrari, or perhaps Lambo Diablo.

I thought the C&D number was high. I was expecting something much closer to the CL Type-S.

It will indeed by right there with the CL type S @ 6.5secs.
That is the good part. The redesign is the bad part. I got some pictures emailed to me from the car show and I was greatly disappointed in the front design of the car.
Why did they change it!?
I love the performance of this car but they shouldn't have fooled around with the grill.

I'm willing to bet that the 0-60 times for the TL-S and CL-S will be almost identical. The 0-60 times for the 2 and 4 door Pontiac GTPs are the same. How could the 4 do TL weigh 100lbs lighter than the 2 do CL. Don't make sense>
