TL-P tranny probs?
New here, sorry if I'm flogging a dead horse, but just acquired a new 03 TL, and am viewing the transmission failure issue discussed in the TL-S forum with some alarm. Is this a TL-S specific problem, or have the straight TLs shown it as well?

Just had my 2001 3.2TL towed to the dealer today! Still under warranty. Major slippages between gears 2 & 3 and 3 & 4. I took video of the problem so the dealer couldn't tell me that he couldn't find it. He agreed on the spot to order me a new tranny (rebuiilt) for installation. He said this was the second 2001 he's fixed but he has seen more '99s and '00s with the same problem. He didn't say what he thought the problem was, only that he recommends a full transmission service every 15K miles if you want to avoid the problem.

How many miles did you have on it?
The 15k service comment is just a pure line of B.S. my previous car ran 115k and 12 years without any service but the manual-recommended fluid changes (which I think were at 30k intervals).
I'm curious as to whether the trans is Japanese or American-built.

Does anyone know what the exact problem is, i.e. aluminum clutch that just wears out, etc.??? I know Ford had a big problem like this with their 98-00 Tarus line...the clutch would start to go out at around 80K miles or so...they quit using aluminum and fixed the problem.

I think Honda has a big problem with Trannys. Check out the Honda Odessy board, www.odyclub.com. They complain about bad Trannys too.
Mine's been good so far. I have had my '02 -P for over a year now.

I have a 99 TL with over 60,000 miles and no tranny problem so far (knock on wood). I changed my oil every ~3000 miles and I changed the transmission fluid at 30,000 miles.

We had to have a new (rebuilt) tranny put in our '01 TL. It only had about 21,000 miles on it at the time. They couldn't tell me what was the problem, but only that they would have to put in a new tranny. We have since traded it in on a new MDX, but I still have a '99 TL with 65,000 miles on it and I have not had any trouble with it.
I have not ever changed the transmission fluid in it. Is this something that I should have done? I didn't think the first "tuneup" was to occur until 100,000 miles. I do change the oil regularly, but that is about it.

My '01 TL has 25K on it. I started to notice minor slipping shifts about 1,000 miles ago. I haven't changed the fluid since I bought it new.
The good news is the dealer said the new tranny will be delivered today and I can pick up the car on Monday. At least they are fixing it quickly.
The dealer feels that a service every 15K will solve the problem, even though he doesn't know what the problem is. Might be cheap insurance or a waste of time & $. I'm gonna do it since I plan to hold onto this car for a while.

Just got my '01 TL-Navi back from the dealer today with the rebuilt tranny. I'd forgotten how well this thing shifted before it started going bad.
It took a full 6 days to have the work done but 4 of those days was waiting for the tranny to arrive. They are having trouble getting them because so many TL trannys are going bad. This is definitely NOT just a TL-S problem.

having my tranny replaced on my 99 tomorrow... 67k miles... thank god i have the extended 100k powertrain warranty... i asked this same question on another thread i started, but are they replacing the trannies w/ "fixed" ones? meaning, are we just getting new/rebuilt trannies that could have the same problems down the road? Have they not isolated the problem in the tranny and fixed it on the replacements?
