TL HID's on ebay

I just got a passat and am looking for HID's. Anyway, as I was cruising ebay I saw an add for TL HID's for $150 or so. In that add it mentioned that the mounting tabs on both sides had been broken off but it did not affect function. Suspicious to anyone else?!

Is it the auction titled "Acura HID Ballasts!!! Make your own HID!"??

MAybe it's a different auction but in this one, the seller mentions that the mounting tabs broke off during an accident. The tabs are part of the housing made out of sheet steel. Unless you pry it back and forth, I doubt an impact that didn't damage the housing will "rip" the mounting tabs off

On closer look, it looks like the housing is cast.

The photos in the acution

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eb...194142&r=0&t=0

looks like they were taken by the same person who took this picture

(car gallery at zaino)

Now how would a person owning a trans am get Acura TL lights?
Maybe his wife had a TL?

BTW, the trans am photo looks like it was digitally enhanced!
...the flash effect(s) looks like it/they was/were done in photoshop

I wonder if ebay has some service where you can flag someone for selling stolen goods. It must happen all of the time. I mean who needs a "fence" any more?

If worse comes to worse, you can opt for Catz -Zeta light systems. I believe they run for under 250.00 a set and actually, light up around 4100K (close to TL output). Check your headlight assembly. Is the Passat a new body (like 2000 and up?)? I know some links that might be helpful to your needs right now. I remember that I was trying to do HID lighting on a 93 Lexuse Es300. I'm sure with the proper mods, we would have had the only 93' ES300 with Xenons on the road in Chicago. I'm still pondering that project.

I would definately consider checking out this page and extracting some ideas from there. Always check Ebay though...you may strike a great deal here or there. Let me know how your project comes out!

and don't forget

4. this one's got pics of a passat with hid conversion done already! PLUS He's got instructions on the entire process! Definatley check this out!

Hot damn! That is one CLEAN looking VW!

Back to topic...I'd report his A$$ to e-bay. This sounds way to suspicious to me! Especially if he's in the Tri-State area.
