Question Tl Gas Pedal Hard?

My tl's gas pedals are so damn hard... i dunno if its just mine.. or if it needs some WD40 on it or wat the damn problem is.... i drive my girl's corolla, my friends camry, uncles lexus, the pedals are sooo smooth... and when i mean smooth.. i mean u press it a lil and it goes...
i mean i'm takling about my girl's corolla here.. .. even her dad's crv was smooth..

is this an acura thing or just for 2nd gen Tls.... i asked teh dealer and they were like "its supposed to be like that..." i asked a friend who owns one and he comlpains as well...

everyone who gets into my car usually comments on the pedal... so like come on guys.. help me out.... i dont care if i have to change the spring to the one from toyota but i prefer the light pedals over some hard one...

my excuse to everyone was .. "u see.. this car has more power then u can handle so the pedal is like that so u don't burnout each time" .. ya its lame but watever... those noobs believed me lol..

p.s i tried the 07 TL-S pedals and they were like the lexus's, super light.. i think its drive by wire thats y.. but still...

There is a thread on this subject- use search

Several people have lubed the throttle cable and cruise control cables with dramatic results!
There was one guy whose throttle cable was actually off from its correct position and he could only get half throttle. Look at the engine side of the cables for access
Dont forget to check your floormat for interferance with the throttle
Check the pedal assembly in the car
Take a look with a can of spray lube- silicone or wd or whatever is handy and appropriate to your areas weather should fix you right up

While your at it with the silicone spray lube- hit the rubber weatherstrips everywhere

check and clean and Lube the cable by the cable holder and cam gear on the TB. Clean out any deposits by the butterfly. It should be real smooth and easy to operate.

Try greasing your throttle cable. My buddy told me about this and it did help my car out. I used penetrating oil with silicone in it. Just spray the cable a bit and with the car off hit the gas a few times and you should feel a difference pretty quick. I guess you are supposed to use liquid graphite but WD40 would work too.

lol

k big guy.... butterfly? ur throwing all these techni stuff at me.. i'm just like " " lol... well i'll ask around for what these mean but so basically from what i understood.. i should spray it around the place i press the pedal (and where the wire is visible) ... then open the hood and spray it where its attached to the engine (where its also visible) since its inside a black tube all other times...

now if i sound like a noob... well.. i stripped the car.. done a lot but lets just say.. when it comes to "engines"... i know SHieeeeeeeeeeet. (except puttin on mods... which i get my local shop to do)

The butter fly is in the Throttle Body (TB) You remove the rubber tube between the TB and the air filter box. Look inside the TB and you will see a brass plate, when you press the gas pedal that opens to allow more air in. Look and clean around the edges of that.

That help?

I would not do it inside the car. Here is a pic

If you look near where the red arrow is pointing under the engine cover you should see the two cables about there. The cables will have what looks like silver braiding connecting to some small pulleys. You want to grease just that silver braiding you should see some small black plastic things on there too. Just grease that and step on the pedal a few times with the car off.

Also do what Billy Sacco said by cleaning up the cables where they attach to the TB and grease them up

Most likely if any thing is causing it to stick its under the hood. You can look at the cable where it attaches to the pedal and see if there is any thing binding it up there.

hmm

so i don't have to change the spRing that connects to the gas pedal rite? because i thought that spring got some mold build up or something and thats y its a lil harder to press.. but ya.. this pedal is definetely not smooth.. u gotta press it a lil and then the tl just all of a sudden jumps and basically get used to it...

after drivingt this car.. any other car i drive seems smooth so i can't wait to fix this.... sigh.. i've been driving a TL without the pleasure of its true smooth pedal.

No the spring is ok. From what you just described with teh press it and then a jump, your butterfly has a build up on it and is sticking i bet.

Take the Throttle cable off the Throttle Body and lube it. After you unhook it have someone push on the gas petal and see if it is smooth or hanging up. Tip the end of the cable upward and spray some lubricant on the end so that it will seep inside the cable. Did this on my Harley and it made the throttle work smoother. Our gas petal is quite sensitive compared to other cars. I also cleaned the throttle body out and that made a difference. It's a little smoother now.

Yeah the TL gas pedal should be real touchy. I have an S so not sure if there is a difference with TL-P but I imagine there should not be. With the car off it should be real easy to push the pedal to the floor.

my gas pedal felt like it weighed a ton, so i had it looked at by acura and they said that the cable wasn't in the correct position and it was only opening at half throttle. you should get it looked at if you are under warrenty.

I just bought a used TB and new IAC valve cheap and I cleaned the crap out of the TB, but it squeaks a little when I push on the pulley to open the butterfly. Is there a lube I can safely use on the butterfly to make is easier to open? It's not hard to open at all, but I want it to be "like new" when I put it on. any suggestions or should I leave it alone.
