TL Gas Mileage

I'm wondering what sort of mileage others in this forum are getting with their TL. My 2000 TL, after 13000 miles is getting about 13 MPG in mixed driving..... way below the EPA rating for city driving alone. My half-ton pickup with a V8 does as well.

The local Acura dealer has refused to check the engine and insists that the problem is due to poor quality fuel.

If Acura won't look into this matter what sort of things should I be asking other service centers?

Appreciate any advice.

Well, if you drive it really hard, I can see getting just 13. I didn't see mileage pick up until 1k, and then it was a steady climb to 19 where I'm at right now (started getting 19 after 2500 miles). If you drive the car really hard (lots of WOT), I would expect that you won't get the EPA mileage, especially if you use SS and are winding it up a little more than the automatic shifting does (example: driving 55 but in 4th and not shifting up to 5th, driving 45 in 3rd and not shifting up to 4th). Try half a tank of milder acceleration and shorter shifting and see what happens....

We get 19-20 mpg in the city, and 26-30 on the highway.

I get around 22-23 miles per gallon and I do drive hard sometimes. I never went below 19 though since I bought the car and I have 20000 miles on it now.

Well, that would probably explain the 12mpg at times.

Thanks for the feed back. Now I really feel bad. It appears that I'm getting about 1/2 the mileage that others are getting.

Aren't there some diagnostics that the dealer can do to determine whether I have a defective part or faulty programming causing the significantly lower mileage?
