Unhappy TL broken into . Need some advice

Just two days ago I saw my TL with its trunk open and the back right passenger side window broken. My brand new Kicker 12" Square sub with Power acoustik amp was stolen. The thief even took my skateboard and all my CDs.

Anyway, I lost a grip and don't want to lose more in the future when i get my system replaced. I don't think the stock alarm system even alarmed when the thief broke my window and went in. I need a better alarm. I will be getting 19" rims and need really good security for my car.

What do you guys recommend (what brand, model of alarm?). I also need security for my rims. What do you guys suggest? Let me know. Thanks!

stock security systems only ring when the door is opened, if he broke the window and never opened the door, that means that the alarm never went off, plus he knew what he was doing...he is probably someone you know or something...since he knows not to open the door...

What happened to you stinks, no doubt, but allow me to play "devil's advocate" here....

Assuming there was an after-market alarm installed where the alarm did sound upon the windows being broken, does that mean the punk who did the deed wouldn't have made the attempt? In the end, you still have a broken window to fix whether the alarm sounded or not.

IMHO, there is just no way of protecting the car if some a$$ wants to screw with it. Use good judgement as to where to park, and get homeowner's/renter's policy to insure your goods.

Even if you have a window sensor, it will only goes off the moment the windows break. The thief just hide until the siren stop. If there's still no one around, he just reach inside or climb inside the car and snatch whatever he wants.

I bet its some one you know. Or lives near you and has heard your sounds. The best protection against some one breaking your window is parking in a well lit area and make your car look less attractive to criminals. Don't advertise all your goodies if you can't keep your car from being vandelize ie. locking it in a garage, because you are always going to lose. I've had two radio's stolen and a set of wheels.

Yep! Thats California for you... It totally sux what happened to your car! NO TL deserves a broken window! I live in LA(ok neighborhood) and theres been a problem with theifs around campus. The other day...LOL! I was parking my car the other day in the parking structure like at 2 in the morning. I wanted to clean the inside of my car...(had all the doors and trunk open). Low and behold like a min into rummaging thru my car a police car shows up and shines his lights on me as if I was a theif. I ended up in handcuffs because I was a suspect for a car that had just been broken into less than 10 minutes ago in the same structure. They had me sitting on the curb in handcuffs for about 30 minutes(by this time its like 2:45am) They search my car thoroughly... Asking me where I stashed the stolen parts. I was totally amazed at how I was accused... At first they thought I was stupid enough to try to steal the TL or whatever parts it had on it. Then they realized that I was the OWNER of the TL. I started to get smart with them only because they had me sitting on the curb with their HIDx50 spot lights shining in my face intentionally. They finally came to realize that I was just an ordinary student trying to park his car... They didn't even have the courtesy to apologize for treating me like a total criminal, having me on my knees with my hands up(guns out... I could see that it was a berretta 9mm) and afterwards in handcuffs for almost 45 min. All in all, I felt that because I was a young asian male(with baggy clothes on that day) I was stereotyped as a theif. I'm sure that im not the only individual from a minority who has experienced the same type of bias where you are considered a "suspect" just because of your appearance. This is just my opinion... Im not saying its true everywhere but it duz exist. And you know what nerves the cop had? He undid my tight handcuffs and told me, " Son, is there anything else we could help you with?" I was about to say F*cK U!!! But then I realized that this cop was serious and waiting for me to reply. I sucked in all my pride and I said, " It's late... THANK YOU OFFICER!" He walked off and said no prob like he did me a favor! WTF!!!!!!!!!! COPS THESE DAYZ!!! AFTERWARDS I WAS IN THE WORST MOOD!
It's nice to know my car sorta safe I gueSS!

I had almost the same expericence 4 years ago about 1 year after I got my licence. I was driving a girl home and this stupid cop pulls me over and then asks me to get out of my car and then askes if im in a gang and made me pull my sleeves up to check for gang tattoo's. He then later searched my car and then gave me a ticket for not stopping on a red light before making a right turn.
this was like 4 in the fooken morning no cars.

Err. hate cops.

Not to antaganise you, but the stock stereo system sounds real good. Why upgrade it? Secondly, did you have the remote trunk opener unlocked? If it was locked the trunk would have had to be pryed open, and the alarm would have gone off. As far as I am concerned an aftermarket stereo is just an excuse to have your vehicle broken into.(I have had firsthand experience of this ) and no one has ever stolen my stock stereos.

Don't tempt those bastard thieves.

there are a whole array of alarms out there.. I know a lot of people on this website recomment clifford (now bought by DEI) but I would recommend also looking into alpine and viper. my friend has an alpine that is a full featured alarm and even has a warning for people getting too close or touching the windows, let alone breaking them. finally it is usually good to bolt down all stereo equipment.. it is apain in the in ass but on the other hand it preserves your stuff even if broken into..
