tire thump

Has anyone had this problem? When my tires are cold, and by that I mean when outside temp is about 55 or below, I have a tire that thumps. Almost like it has a flat spot. After five or ten minutes it is gone.

All in all I would say it's pretty normal. Particularly if the vehicle has been sitting for a day or two. Once you get on the highway and give the tires a chance to warm up they return to their roundness(is that a word?)

Where in NH are you?

hmm... that's bizarre... I've never heard of this problem before... but it is very liekly that it's b/c of temperature... however with the correct tire pressure most tires won't be anything BUT round in normal conditions around 55 degrees. If you were telling me it was 20 or 10 degrees it might make sense. 55 degrees is very normal sitting temperature. They only change their shape a lot at higher temperatures, otherwise the rubber isn't soft enough to shape itself into a diff form. Try checking your tire pressure once the tires are hot.

I'll give it a try, but I check the pressure regularly and it is always fine.

Iggy... I'm in Hampstead.

ckNJ... wrong time of the year for mud in NH. But after today, maybe its ice! Got about 1 inch this morning.

But it is annoying, every morning in the fall and winter, it thumps. If the temp is 55 or above no problems. I told the dealer, and got the standard "your tires look normal" response.

I've had the problem on several cars. When sitting for a long time, and the tires are cold, they seem to develop a small temporary "flat spot". After driving for a while they're ok.
