Tire replacement advice
I just blew out my right front tire (sidewall) on a pothole. Stock Michelins have about 14k. Should I just replace one tire with another stock (how long are these things supposed to last anyway)? Or is it better to replace with two new fronts? If I replace & upgrade two fronts with a higher performance tire, will that cause a problem? I guess if money's no object, I should go with 4 new ones...seems a little soon though.

. I'm using a set of those too. Only $99 for 225/45R17. Can't beat that price. These babies are just like our cars, best bang-for-the-buck. Great handling in wet and dry. With how cheap these tires are, I suggest you replace all four and forget about it.
axleback.
Sumitomo tires are #1 replacement tires
Sumitomo tires are the tires of choice for replacement for tl-s. My son just bought a set and I will by a set for my tl-s next month. The price is right and also we went up one notch on the speed rating to a Z rated tire.
Once my OEM tires are shot, I plan on replacing with a set of Bridgestone S-03 Pole Position tires, of course this is a summer only tire, so I plan on getting a second set of wheels with a set of Green Diamond brand tires on it. I'm not sure which model of tire from them I'm going to choose yet though. For those that don't know, Green Diamond tires are the end all be all of icy and snow traction. They have industrial diamonds in the tread and are remarkably inexpensive. Blizaks don't hold a candle.

If you don't want to spend too much, just get the two new ones up front, but you will have to remember that the rears will need replacement before the fronts. But if money isn't a factor then the ideal would be to replace all four.
I wanted to replace all four of mine in the spring, but I busted a front tire on a curb myself (damn soccer mom left me no room, but that's another rant!), and I replaced the front two with goodyear's from Mavis because I didn't want to wait for delivery from tirerack.

They are quite good so far. But I only had them for a few days. They seem soft but the treadwear is 360 which is not short.
They stick to the ground pretty well. They were excellent the other day in one of the heaviest rainstorms I have ever seen.

Thanks all for the advice on the Sumitomos and tirerack.com. After doing a little research, I opted for the four new tires. I just got a set of HTR+ installed this A.M. for a little over $420 (local dealer). Fore some reason I decided to hang on to my three good Michelins. Maybe they'll make a good tire swing for somebody.
good choice handle well and are relitavly enexpensive. im waiting to see how they do in the snow im not holding my breath fo much but what the heck. come spring bout the time i need another set of tires for my baby im going to get pilot sports or SO3's
This is my first sedan (needed a second car to keep the miles off my baby) but I'm putting the same KDWs from my sports car onto the Type S. 'Course my TL has about 8k of upgrades in it already, so... ;-) The KDWs have been great on my other car - they were awesome in the FL rains and they do good on the CA twisties. I always managed 25k despite being Z rated and driven extremely hard. My 2 cents worth.

Maybe I still can get them from you? Then when the other 2 Michelins wear out I won't have to buy new...

So far, I'm very happy with the V-Rated Goodyear Eagle RS-A's. My TL-S handles noticibly better than the stock Michelins. Turn-ins can be made a lot faster, and the tires actually stick on hard turns. I hope they just stay that way.....
You said money is not an issue.
Is performance? Meaning are you into improving your 0-60 and 1/4 times, as well as handling?
If so, do some research and go with the lightest tire that fits your needs.
I switched my tires and wheels with both in mind. I dropped about 10lbs a set up.
The result at the track was impressive as I was beating moded TLS. We did dynos the next day, and even though the moded TLS and CLS were putting out 23-25 more HP at the wheels, I was beating them in the 1/4.
So you could say that the lighter combination was help me recover 25HP.

1/4 result: 14.65
