I'd say keep changing your tranny fluid. or... simply just have the dealer replace it if there's any prob wit it.

Drive the hell out of it! You have a warranty yes? Mines at 7500 miles with no tranny problems and no squeaks or rattles! Shifts like silk! Drive in SS all the time. Been hitting VTECH hard since 600 miles. Only thing gonna stop me from driving the car hard will be the loss of my license! LOL! You wanna live forever? By the way I have about 10 coats of polish, and wax. I wash about every other day. The leather is glove soft with no sign of any cracks or wear. I think I'll go to the garage and visit it! I may even drive it. Na, I might get it dirty! LOL Enjoy yours!

Question

I dunno, ask miss cleo.

oh wait, she's in jail. :p

I guess you can "baby" the tranny, but that's just not worth it. Seems like it either fails or it doesn't fail. Depends on whether you got a lucky one or not more than on your driving habits.

Not that. Is the same thing, the transmission won't know if it's D5 or SS, just the computer.

not using SS mode can reallie help prevent failure...

the transmission would be better if u put D5 all the time...
using SS to kickdown isn't that gd for the transmission

but i use it anyways...need the punch on hwy or on the ramp to accelerate

I agreee, to a point. I wouldn't beat the heck out of it. Then again, I wouldn't baby it either. If the tranny going to go, it will go regardless of how well you baby it. You might as well have some fun .

The way I do is simple. Change ATF every 20,000 miles, do not punch it when the engine is still cold or not warmed up to operating temp. when my car is still cold, tranny ****s little more harder, so i keep it easy. Otherwise, have fun with the car!! And don't listen to people saying not to use SS. It's same as being in D5, just you are in control when the tranny shifts. Just my $ .02

I agree with the above. Basically, when you startup first thing in the morning, drive gently for the next couple of miles when the engine and the other sub-systems like the transmission etc reaches operating temperatures. The torque converter takes a little while to lock-up when the trans fluid is cold and clammy.

Drive smoothly. I drive fast all the time but I also drive smoothly. This is the key to Transmission longevity and also fuel mileage.

Change the transmission fluid every 15,000 miles.

This is my 4th Auto-transmissioned car, the first three have crossed 250K miles with absolutely no issues whatsoever.

Later...AH

rite...didn't explain detail enough..
i should say prevent hard kick down...this will increase the friction of the gear in the transmission...

and do not go to neutral when ur car is moving...that will damage the transmission for sure

well, technically the friction between the gears does not vary. Friction is not a factor when you're talking about gears anyhow, since gears contact and have interlocking teeth.

You probably mean that hard driving and shifting would place more stress on the gears. Well sure. Does anyone have any evidence that hard driving would place enough stress to prematurely strip the gears or break other parts in our TL tranny's. No. Acura has kept the tranny breaking epidemic a secret.

Well the best conclusion I have come up with is:

There are 2 types of complaints about TL transmission"

1. Hard shift (not smooth) from R to D5 or D5 to R. The car tends to stutter. Also not quick response, seems like the transmission is taking too long to shift and send the power to the wheels (torque converter).

Issue number 1 is more common than the real transmission problem. Anyways it shouldn't do it on a 30k car. Usually happens when the car transmission is cold. Acura has replaced a couple of this transmission, and its getting a little more restrict about replacing more transmission with this type of problems

2. The car basically revs before it shift. Usually happens to 2nd or 3rd gear. Very hard shifting on those 2 gears. The car is drivable. Most likely cause overheating. Acura will replaced your transmission no questions ask.

The reason I think is overheating, is because number 2 has happen to other members, but Acura won't tell them what happen. Unlike other members I had the same problem, but mine was cause by an accident instead of just happening. A line going from the transmission to the radiator got hit with the battery holder, but it didn't puncture the line. When this happen the transmission fluid couldn't flow freely and making the transmission overheat. My car behave the same way other car with transmission problems as explain on number 2. So I think the transmissions are just overheating, but that's just my opinion. The real cause could be something else.

BTW what happen to my transmission can only happen to the 99 4 speed transmission, since they are cooled by cooling the fluid. 00 and up TL models are cooled by the engine coolant.

well...every transmittion will overheat if u drive hard...

my friend has a 99 Volvo S70, and he likes to do manual shift all the time...such as when coming to a stop, he will downshift to L to slow down or cornering...and he blew the transmittion because of that...

Replacing stock spark plug or not?

Do you see any increase in engine performance if you are replacing the stock spark plugs with other brand like bosch?
