TIP of the day: Transmission Clunk when put in gear

I hear people that own an Automatic TL report that while they put their car in gear from a park position that they hear a “CLUNK”.

Why the CLUNK is caused it because:
· Either you park on a hill or the transmission gives a little and at the tranny stop point there is now weight stress.

· Conclusion is the put your emergency brake on while you are holding your brakes on and putting the TL in park.

· Once you get back in your TL, start her up, hold your brakes, put the gear on “4” (drive) or “R” (reverse) and release the emergency brake.

What this does is relief stress on the transmission and it can cause the gears to pop and make a transmission go bad (in time). I know this can take about another 10 seconds out of your time to do so, but what would you rather do? Do these steps or in days, months or weeks take it to the shop and get the shop to replace/repair the tranny and it can take days to get back. I know I hate to loose my TL for even a day

So this is just a tip.

I did this and I did get a clunk noise until I started putting the emergency brake on while putting the TL in “P” (park). With 113K now on original transmission, I must say this is a really good status report. May the best transmission win!!

Good luck and my all your transmissions last longer!!
