Tinting Questions

I'm trying to decide between SolarGuards HP Charcoal ($200) and SunGard Desert Smoke aka Radiant ($185). Both at 35%.

I have a 2003 TL NBP and I want the highest amount of heat rejection, the SolarGuard is 53% while the SunGard is 47% (6% is really not a big deal).

What are your experiences? What would you go with? It's with two different dealers and both have been around for over 20 years. Help me out. Thanks.

Are there any other tinters in your area? They may have different film like Madico, Llumar, Formula One, and 3M. You also didn't indicate whether or not you have navi and may affect your decision. The manual recommends the use of ceramic film (F1 Pinnalce, Huper Optik) vs. metallic film (may cause interference with GPS) such as Llumar and Solargard. There are a number of ppl who have used metallic film with no reported probs and there were some who did encounter problems. Do a search of the topic and go from there. As for myself, I went with the recommended ceramic (F1 Pinnacle) film. Ceramic does is a little more expensive .......

Agreed, pretty good advice. Personally I have found running a search and navigating the website/Forums at www.tintdude.com will reveal A LOT more specific and valid questions and answers.

Also, try visiting all the above manufacturer's websites for more specific info, and add Suntek to the list.

Important factors in tint consideration include, your location, car color, etc. so check out tintdude!

Don't be afraid to spend the coin on window film. Nothing worse than a nice custom ride and a $100 pos tint job. Best of Luck, hope this helps.

Well, that answers that. 20-35% would be perfect, IMO. Since you have a dark interior, it will look that much darker. There are a lot of ppl with 5-15% and others like a lighter tint, of course that is an individual preference. A good tint job is only as good as the installer. One more thing ask how many TLs have they done and if any problems are encountered. And please ask about scratching and moleskin (felt). I'm sure you've read the posts on tint scratching.

Also, remember that each state has specific tint laws that govern the amount of light transmittance. Some shops won't do an illegal job- so just a heads up!

jlmugen: where's your shop and how much do you charge for fronts+rears and rears only? Been looking for a good shop in the area for awhile now.

200 for whole car and 165 for back half, thats the shop's price. If you want sidejob then it will be cheaper. PM me if you are serious.
