Tint Quote...does it seem right?

Ok so my lazy ass finally started getting quotes for tints, anyway this shop by me wants $250 for 35% all around and a vinyl strip across the top of the back window. Is this right? I was expecting 150 but 250?

The other thing is they said they would only go up to the bumpy part of the rear window but not cover it unless I got the vinyl strip. Should I tell them to bugger off?

Thanks in advance.

Well it all depends on how good a job they do and what type of tint it is. Mine was 150 all around, but he misquoted me, it was supposed to be 180. He too said that the built in rear antenna could not be tinted but I talked him into giving it a shot and it stuck. I don't mean to steal this thread but my guy said he had to do the rear in strips and it left little lines all over my rear window, is this right? On my ///M5, I got the rear window tinted by the dealer and they didn't use strips on the rear window and it looks to be of similar curvature, what's going on?

Hoops ..where in NY are you located? You can get it done through my guy if you want. He should charge cheaper than that and excellent job! I own a van rental and get all my vans tinted through him, so I have a special rate, if interested PM me. Dont expect some ridiculously low figure, but it should be cheaper than what u quoted and for a professional job too.

Not sure... that sounds like a lot. I paid $175 for 35% on the sides and 20% on the rear (and he did the vinyl stip over the dots) at Eagle Tinting in Dobbs Ferry. I also brought my car in 2 weeks after I bought it. For older cars he charges slightly more b/c it needs more prep.

I paid $225 in Los Angeles but this place was on the high-end. However, I've got life-time replacement if there are any problems.

Mine was about $275 for a 35% Mirror Tint all the way around. Mine too came with a lifetime guarantee. I've seen so many cars bubble that I wanted to pay for a complete professional job. One thing to note is how much gap they leave between the tint and the top of the window. Some cheaper guy will leave a 1/4 inch. I wanted to make sure they got as close as possible. Mine is less than 1/8 inch!

Same here... gap is about 1/8th of an inch and also lifetime guarantee, but not $275, much cheaper than that.

The place I went to was $150 for limo on the rear / back windows, and one shade below limo on the front (dont know the percentages, sorry). this is for the most basic tint as I didn't want the metal tints messing with the nav system (still haven't heard a definitive yes or no on that one). I asked how much it would cost for hp quantum tint all around, it was still under $200.
this place also tinted the top strip on the back - its been over a year and I haven't had any problems with bubbling.

That's a lot of dang money! I been with a reputable tint shop here that does great work. Got Llumar Platinum Plus for $105.00 and it is very nice. Keep shopping around.

That WAS shopping around! I found some place that were charging $500 for a decent job. One place even went as high as $700 for their "professional" quality. Trust me $275 was the cheapest I could find around here for good stuff.

I got mine done with 20% all around and lifetime guarantee for $100 in Bloomfield, NJ. Cant remember the name of the shop, but they had a computerized machine that would cut the tint paper to exact fit, so all the guy had to do was put it on and was less labor work so it is cheaper. The rear window was done all the way up to top in 2 peices.
I had to get the rear window redone b/c of an accident and it shattered. I took it to another shop b/c insurance was gonna pay for it and I wanted to get the whole window done in one peice and they charged $100 for the rear window only.

$160, 5 windows, 35% or 20%, he did the entire rear window and all the other windows to the very tip. I think he did a pretty good job.

Car Spa, located on Flatlands and Remsen Ave in Canarsie, Bklyn 11236... ask for Dexter
