Tint Question

I keep getting told by tint shops that I need felt..but our cars already have a felt-like strip on the window, so are they just trying to squeeze more $$ outta me? I was planning on turning it down anyways but I just wanted to see what all you tinted TLers had to say. Is felt necessary or is what is already there sufficient to avoid scratching the film?

Shoot..while I'm opening this thread..what's the difference between ceramic and carbon tints besides price? I know the ceramic reduces heat but not sure if it's worth the extra $$.

All comment/opinions/info is welcome.

I don't know about the kinds of tint. But you don't need the felt. More than a year on my tint and not one scratch. Don't worry about that.

You don't need it if you're careful. But i do suggest that when you tint your rear window, you should put black vinyl on the top side to make it look cleaner. just my

Got it done at a friend's shop today and I agree that black vinyl on that top part will make it look cleaner. I'll wait for the film to really adhere itself to the glass tho. So far I'm really happy with the results. My ride has a whole new feel/look. It's very refreshing. Slowly modding the exterior but every little step makes me happier with how it looks. Just wish it would stop raining so I could wash my car. I got leaf chunks all over the doors and on the side of the rear bumper right now

The felt is also known as moleskin.

It is really only used with 3G TLs because they are infamous for scratching tint.

Stuff is way too expensive...glad I don't have a 3G.
Actually, that's not true. I'd love a 3G
