To tint or not??
To tint or not??
Hey I am currently considering whether or not I want to tint my car.
I have an 03 tl-s NBP. I can think if pros and cons. pros being less UV radiation, more privacy. Cons being more attention from the cops, and also tint kind of looks cheap.
I would really appreciate it if you could give me some advice, and also some pics of some black cars with tint so i can really see how they look. Thanks

sup utvol- i've been thinking about this too actually for the past few weeks.....i first tinted my car about 12 months ago.....35% on all windows.....wasn't enough at all, so i had the back window tinted 15%......NOW, i'm seeing that 35% for me at least isn't enough......so i'm having it tinted tomorrow 15% on all windows (cept the back cuz it's already done).
IMO, tint really makes the car look better. specially if you've got a NBP. For a NBP depending on how black you want it I'D go with 25%.......but mine's SSM, so. What color is your interior BTW??? that's really imp. if it's black don't go too dark, but if it's .......parchment (is that what they call it?) you can go a bit darker.....
so the question really is, how dark do you want it to be?
i gotta say though, 15% REALLY helps in the summer, dunno how hot it gets in summer in TN, but here it gets in upper 90s, and the tint helps......plus it's also good for privacy in case you got some things goin on in the caa.....if you know what i'm sayin....
CONS of tinting?: cops, but only if you speed, or have a lot of illegal things on your car....if tint is the only thing illegal, (at least here in NJ) the po-po will cut you some slack...
well, i hope this helps, IMO, tinting def makes the car look better.

Hey shawn thanks for the reply. The interior of my car is ebony and i was thinking of going with a 35% tint and 15% on the back. It gets into the mid 90's down here so any help with the heat would be appreciated.
Also now i have to decide which color tint to get. the options are grey, charcoal, black, and stealth. I was leaning towards black which i think would best match my car
Has anybody heard of llumar tint and whether or not it is any good??

my tint shop uses llumar....i think.....yeah. I've always been a fan of BLACK tint. for your color, def go black.....what the heck is stealth?
bottom line with 35% tint: it's good if you want to knock off the really ugly look of untinted windows.....you can still see right through (exept in rain or snow). SOME angles block the see through view though......depends on your taste.....i love my 35% with 15% back window.....but then again i'm still in kollage, and have people accompanying me in my car back and forth to our study groups........... ................ If you don't really like the blackout look (can't see in at all) then go with 35% with 15% back....it's a pretty even look......hope i answered all of your questions.

errr, tint really doesnt look cheap IMO.
And you can get the legal tints and not worry about cops. Who cares whether they give the attention or not, as long as your not breaking any other laws...

Yeah the shop i am taking it to uses llumar tint and they also give a lifetime warranty. I just wanted to know if it was any good b/c i definitely think window tint that looks purple is cheap and looks horrible imo. Thanks for the help guys.
My car is silver, and i dont plan on putting tints on AT ALL... yeah it gets hott over the summer, but i think tints make it look cheap... i duno i always felt that way about tints... and i feel that 35% is too light, and 20% is too dark- theres nothing in the middle... 2 cents
I tinted mine (20% all around), and have been unimpressed with how the top of the back window came out. (The pebbly black spots they put on the paint make the tint not stick right). I had a professional shop do it, and they said that's normal--anybody have any experience with that?
I'd do it...
I'd do it...
I'm from ny and if you dont got tints on ya car you aint ballin...
the darker the tint is the quicker the painties come off...
If you got a black wit black leather interior it makes the tint soo much darker
I got 20's all around on black/black, and 35 percent windsheild tinted...
You gatta be low key but at the same time sleek and pull it off.

You're not supposed to put tint on the ceramic strip on the top of the rear window. Tint won't stick to it. Take it back to the shop and have it trimmed or redone.
I have 35% on my Blue TL-S and love the look.

binster: if you didn't tint the speckled part of the window, did you paint it in, or just leave it? Wouldn't it look weird if you just left that section untinted? Plus, what would you do about the top edge of the film--wouldn't it be at risk of being pulled up when you clean the window? -Derrick
my TL has LIMO tint, 5%, not going to lie i did more in my car when i had no tints, and when i had no tints i always dressed really nice and kept the car clean cause i knew everyone saw me. Once i tinted it i would wake up go to Bk get my food and go home eat it, with out doing anything (sometimes don't even put shoes on) also Good for drinking!!! lol i do to many long trips miami to jax, always good to slip a drink with the girl while cruising. . My first car it was str8 as hell i loved it and never got pulled over i had 2 layers on limo tints and 28% full windshield tint, i rolled around way under cover!! everyone would ask if i knew who drove my car because they couldn't tell who was in it but always just wanted to sit in it. BUT i did have to pull off the ace ventura move down a few back roads of miami just way to dark! and the TL i got pulled over once so far in south beach on 4th of july i was just random, and all my windows where down!! so just watch ur self! tints have saved me cause when i get pulled over i roll the windows up put the seat belt on and then just put the windows back down quickly. . .and they never know
i was thinking about getting my 2000 3.2 tinted but i dont know how much to do it. im in arizona so summer time it gets up to 115. anybody have an idea on what percentage is good for the front and the back?

Thats what I got.... it's Formula One Millinium tint which is a metallic non-reflective (not like those metallic mirror tints) black tint. Mines looks darker because of the black interior but overall its not too dark nor is it too light. My friend has 35% and I know what you mean by too light. I say this is a perfect match for me and I'm very happy with it.

Derrick,
The ceramic strip is dark enough that it blends in. From far away you can't tell it's not tinted. As for it pulling up I haven't had a problem yet. Be careful when cleaning to not go up and down on the edge instead go left and right. Also spray your window cleaner on your cloth and wipe. Don't spray directly on the edges of the tint.
Hope that helps...

Here in Colorado, tint is not an option. The 5200 ft + altitude makes a big difference with more exposure to the sun. I highly recommend tint in general. Here's my thoughts:
1. Reduces glare big time, especially if you are a commuter.
2. During the winter, the snow reflectivity is dramatically reduced, making it easier to see.
3. It protects your interior from harmful UV rays.
4. Privacy. I love driving and feeling like I am not in a glass bubble.
5. A nice tint job adds to the uniqueness of the vehicle and does not look tacky if done right. My tint guy used a special material that he custom fit a piece on the inside of my back window right at the top where the big area of the black dots are. So, he totally blacked that area out with that material and tinted below that. By doing that, I don't get that crappy look when you try to tint over those black dots. Now, it's nice and smooth black and looks gtreat, inside and out.
I have 35% all around on my TL. Now that I moved back to Colorado, I will probably have my hook up retint my windows at 20% all around. They go easy on tint here in Colorado unless you have like 5% limo all around, then you are asking to get stopped. I got 35% because I lived in Minnesota at the time and the po-po's absolutely HATE tint

Hey I just got back from having my tint put on and i think it looks great
. I got 35% all around because I wanted to keep it legal and not have to worry about removing it. I have a NBP car with ebony interior, and I am actually surprised how dark it is. You can barely see inside with the sun shining on it and im sure at night you wont be able to see in at all.
Im so glad i got it tinted
Will post pics later.

Front Windshield: 50%
4 Windows: 35%
Rear Glass: 20% or 35%
This will give the feel and look of the car having 25-30% tints all around. This also might be cheaper for you to do, since they dont have peel the tint off.
i would definitely get 20% all the way around, or 15% on the back windshield and 20 on the windows. I have a naples gold and mine looks good, i was afraid it was going to look ghetto but it looks sweet.
I had 35% on my legend and it was too light, you can see right through it.
The tint i got is not died, so it came with a lifetime warranty from the company not just the store. it's not metallic because I don't like that too much.
