Are you trying to get easy power? do you already have all bolts on?...
Modify timing should be the very last thing you want to mess with. Specially on a stock ECU.

You have to make sure the crank timing mark lines up to the mark on the cover or on the block (with the timing belt cover removed) and make sure the front and rear cam gear marks line up to the marks on the cam gear backing plates

When all 3 timing marks are ok you should be able to take off the old belt and put the new one without a problem, Just make sure theres slack on the tensioner side of the belt and the 3 timing marks are good before releasing the pin on the tensioner.

Heres a video to help you, Its an MDX but its similar to the TL

best advice from fsttyms1 in post #5

1. Install the belt counter clock wise starting from the crank.
2. Ive done this probably 5+ times and i still dont see the need for the battery tie down.
3. Make sure the rear cam doesn't move. It sits right on the edge of spinning forward or backward 1/4 turn. If you do forget to mark it, there is a mark on the backing plate that you can line up with the TDC line across the cam gear

IIRC I had a wrench on the rear cam and i believe had it against the strut tower bar

what rlly helps are those paper clamps btw

lol, sorry I meant to quote it from you, but nonetheless your advice helped me A LOT when I did my timing belt back in January. Now I have a fresh timing belt and an underdrive pulley woop woop.
