^^^ just be careful, dont want rain to happen the same day u have the sunroof tilted. It wouldve been cool if there was like a sensor where if a rain drop hit the sensor, the sunroof automatically closes.

it should only leak through if it is rainy and windy there is a lip that guides the water around the window and into 2 drain holes in the front of the car.

I always wondered this too. I really do think it is a coolness factor. I remember when they came out with the sunroofs that slid outside of the body instead of into it. People thought it looked cooler.

I really don't care...

The tilt is there so you can put silicone spray on the rear of the seal to stop it from squeaking.

that wasnt to look "Cooler" it was to give more headroom inside, and to allow a larger panel that opens

Yeah - the roof panels were probably to thin to allow them to slide inside the roof.

I hate those panoramic ones on the Pontiac G6 and Scion tC. Scion already had problems w/ theirs, mostly because there is this massive panel(s) of glass sticking hanging over the roof. I like "the hidden slide" look. What I want to know is why do the 2nd gen sunroofs not go in all the way like the 3rd gens??? It's like 2 or 3 more inches. C'mon... Also, the damn grinding noise when it opens.

You wouldngt say that if you were 6'5. If it went in any further they would probably have to take away more headroom inside the car. I wish we had a option to NOT have teh stupid thing

By "in" i really meant back. I wished it went into the roof all the way. It would only take up rear headroom. I'm driving, I don't care about me rear seat passengers, haha.

I had the rattle from my system. It turned out to be the sliding cover. I put one of those furniture feet pads (for furniture on hardwood floors) in between the cover and the roof and havent heard it since.

While I didn't measure the roof (I dont care that much), I'd guess the sunroof doesn't go the whole way back because there's not enough room.

Every car I have ever had with a sunroof would pop up like the TL does. Frankly I very rarely ever drive with the sunroof completely open but I tilt it up almost every day. You get much better ventilation in the car and can drive with the sunroof open even in the rain as long as you are moving.

The sunroof on the TL is not quite as good as the sunroof on my old CRX was at keeping the rain out while you are driving. The CRX had much bigger lips under the sunroof panel to channel the water out.

The CRX had one of those sunroofs that slid outside the roof - it wasnt because it "looked cool" - it was because there was no headroom available to use up 3" of space under the headliner , and the roof itself just wasn't long enough - to accomodate the sunroof panel going inside the headliner. Having the sunroof panel slide back outside the roof was a good engineering compromise to put a sunroof on a car that normally probably could not have had a sliding sunroof.

When my seals get dried out it sounds more like a rattle than a squeek, I just hit it with finish 2001 and the sound goes away. I also use that stuff on the door weather stripping to make sure I don't get door rattles/squeeks.

I spray it on a paper towel and thoroughly wet the seals - let it soak - and wipe the excess off. The tilt allows you to get the back half of the seal.
