fsttyms1, that ticking is coming from your catalytic converter, nothing to really worry about if the engine light isnt on...but of course with 130,000 miles, you kind of expect these things...check it out if you want..but its nothing serious.

I had that problem before I put in my intake. After relocating everything off the tower the noise went away

its NOT the catalitic converter. thats no where near the sound. the sound is coming from just infront of the driver side rear tire. there is a black box there where the ticking is coming from

I have the same noise. I asked on the forums a while back, and while I don't exactly remember what I was told, I do recall someone telling me that it's normal. It's annoying, but you only hear it when you get on your knees and look underneath. Well, at least on my car..

I always wondered what the sound was and where it was coming from. I first heard it when I put on my exhaust. I always forget to listen for the sound when I'm out of the car but I don't think it's there all the time.

I had Acura look at the noise, they said it was part of the EGR valve. (Exhaust Gas Recirculation). I guess its normal that when your idling that the exhaust gets potent cuz its burning gas for no reason so it reciculates the gasses to burn the contaminents.

the sound we are talking about isnt the egr valve, that is located on the engine. ours is coming from the rear. i dont have a helms manual to find out what part it is, but i believe it has something to do with the return canaster, or something on those lines

Hey Kris, let me know if you have any updates on this clicking problem. I as well have the clicking noise coming from my '99.

It could be the fuel pump.

I also think it is the fuel pump. I had the same noise when I had my Integra. The makanic threw it on the lift and showed me exactly where it was coming from (I felt it as well).

The fuel pump is located in the tank accessable by removing an access panel from the spare tire area. There is also fuel tank vapor control valve in this area.

The black box in front of the tank is the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister. The canister has a bypass solenoid valve and a canister vent shut valve.

If you can locate if the ticking sound is coming from the gas tank or canister then you can further eliminate the problem by disconnecting each valve one at a time.

If the ticking sound is always present then I would suspect a fuel pump since the valves are not energized all the time.

thanks southern. i think its coming from the evap canister, thats where the sound seems to be coming from. next time it acts up i need to crawl under and check.
i dont think its the pump because of how loud the sound is and the type of sound it is
