throwing code P1456 in 2003 TL-S

so im driving with my dad when i notice my maintenance required light is turned on (not the check engine light)... so i pull into autozone and get the code pulled. the machine said P1456 "Manufacturer Control Auxiliary Emission Controls" ... and thats it, they werent able to give me any more info on the problem. anyone know what this could be and what needs to be fixed?
i had my check engine light come on about 3 weeks ago, and when i took it into auto zone they said it might be the o2 sensor or gas cap. so i just tightened the gas cap and they erased the code and everything was fine...
anyone know whats wrong and how to fix it?

*i used to have a 99 integra, and i only got the maintenance required light once and that was for an oil change, but there is a button under the dash to push and hold which resets the code on there.... dont know of anything like that for my TL-S*

here is the online link for owner manual for the TL
https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...01_OMANUAL.asp
The mait req light is reset with the 2 tripodometer buttons and comes on based on mileage since reset, about 6-7000 miles to remind you to change the engine oil soon

The check engine is what throws codes
Does the gas cap have a good seal ring??
Always MUST be at least 3 clicks to be tight- airtight system requires positive seal.
Call Acura at 1-800-382-2238 x5 you may be covered by an emission warranty still, its worth asking
If its just an o2 sensor thats easy to replace and a common wear out item
Hows your gas mileage- any less recently?

yeah i went ahead and reset the mait req light... now its turned off. the thing is i did a oil change about 1k miles ago... its not the check engine light that was on, it was just the mait req light which when the people at autozone checked gave the code...
how do i check if the seal ring is good or bad? i just got my inspection done about a month ago and passed with no problems (they check the gas cap during inspection).
i also made sure my cap is tight...
i dont think im covered under any acura warranties because its a rebuild title.
and not sure on the gas mileage since i just got the car about a month or so ago... what kind of gas mileage do yall get with yalls TL-P and TL-S, with normal driving with a once in a while flooring of the gas peddle

Visually inspect the caps oring- if it just passed smog its probably all fine
Always make sure you hear at least 3 clicks when you put it on

The oil minder- you have to reset- I would never expect a quickie shop to do it for you!
Assuming you have read the threads and done Seafoam and NGK spark plugs for max efficiency- most get 19 in town and 22-24 combined with 29-32 on the freeway trips
Its a guzzler in town~

You still need to fix whatever made the code for emissions- likely O2 sensor failure, that will kill your gas mileage too

No warranty on any part of the car with rebuilt title
Hope you picked it up cheap and it works well for you~

The oil maitenance light should not have triggered an emission code- I am going by my 01 so yours may be different.
Check owner manual here
https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...01_OMANUAL.asp
I would test the O2 sensors, the front 1 often goes out and car runs bad- mileage drops
do a seach of azine for Oxygen sensor or O2 sensor replacement for the way to check electrical reading of device with a multi meter.
At least it got a replacement trans before ~the incident~

I am thinking out loud: But the Mait reg light for oil change only blinks for a few seconds at start up, not on while driving. I wonder whats up with the OP- he said~ while driving I noticed...

Hey fsttyms- whats your take on this?

Code 1456 indicates an evaporative system leak in the rear half of the fuel system. I'd try a new gas cap from the dealer. They can fail, and still look fine. Equipment is available to test the cap, but it's easier to just try one. Have the light reset, and if the light comes back on with the same code, it's time for professional help. Even with specific test equipment, evap. leaks can be tough to find.

gas cap need to be replace... UNPLUG UR EGR PLUG AND UNPLUG THE NEGATIVE on your battery and then plug everything back in and crank it up and let it idol for a good 5 minutes so the ECU can reset itself... aUxillary plug normally means the plug to the EGR

still have no had time to clean out the EGR plug nor get a new gas cap... but i think i found the problem, when i was putting gas i noticed that the little flap was missing (the one that opens when you put the nozzle into the gas tank...)
what do i need to fix this? im sure this is the problem because this causes it not to hold the pressure... any help would be nice, thanks!
here are pics:

To be honest Im not sure that flap would be the cause of the problem. Ill try to look in the manual later to see what else it may have to say

thanks fsttyms1 for looking into the manual and thanks kushsmoker for the info...
im not sure if TLs have the flap or not... i just know that my dads 96 mazda millenia and my moms 02 ford explorer both have that flap... plus i think my 99 integra had it also (when i owned it)...

i called my local dealer and they said that when i come in they will print out a list of things that could be the code and how to fix it... but still havent had time to go in...

i tried most of what is on here and it seems like i cant do it my self... i dont know half of the things and i dont want to mess up anything... i switched the gas caps on my dads TL-S and mine so lets see if that fixes anything...

when i filled gas i realized that when i take off the gas cap it doesnt release any pressure like my dads TL-S. anyone know anyone in houston that might be able to help me with this or figure out the problem for a cheap price? thanks guys

That shouldn't have anything to do with it. My car doesn't have it either and I've never had any problems. It's been about a year and half since I purchased the car and it wasn't there back then either.

It's most likely a cracked vacuum line. The hard part is finding it.

The first pic is under the hood. The other pics are under the car by the drivers side rear wheel. Thats where the evap canister is. If you dont know how about finding it or have teh tools to do it its best you bring it to the dealer.

It very well could be effecting mileage. It could be effecting many things.

As for what it would cost, ?? It all depends on what they find. I would look over every thing yourself to see if you can spot any thing obvious. What i posted is directly from the service manual and what the dealer is going to start with as well.

P1457 is an evap leak in the cannister system, as opposed to the fuel tank system. You need a hand vacuum pump to test it. You could try replacing the canister purge valve if it's not too pricey. Many Honda techs consider these to be "presume defective unless proven otherwise" because they can test fine, only to fail intermittently. Gas cap won't cause this code typically

Tler trash : my Canister purge valve is still clicking sound maybe I will test it tonite.
Some Acura tech in Canada consider the Evap Canister valve in the rear
is presume defective ! I do not know what to believe .
Thanks anyways

is my gas fill hole thingy.. not sure where it went or where i can find another one to replace it.

i have an 02 accord v6 with about 83k-84k miles on it seems

but i'll probably find out by testing it in the next week

Believe it or not I'm had this problem on my '99 TL for 18 months ans I've change all the parts, tested and retested all the lines. Smoke tested and all works well. i still get the code. i remember when I changed my battery and reset the check engine light several months back I didn't get any codes for about 7 months. Now all of a sudden when spring arrives code kept comming back. i'm spent upwards of a $1000 for parts and labour try'n to get
rid of this code. NOT SPENDING ANOTHER PENNY!!! Going to take it to Acura directly and show them all my paper work.
