Throttle Position Sensor?
Hey guys, I just bought a OBDII scanner with live data and stuff. It displays that my throttle position is 6% even when the throttle is completely closed.
And then at WOT (manually turning throttle to be sure), the TPS only reports 91%.
Could this be a problem with the OBDII compatibility, or is it typical of a bad TPS?

My scanner doesn't have the "live" data feature, only the freeze frame old school stuff, but it gets me by. I'd suggest a few more back to back tests under varying conditions to see if the displayed info is consistent.
It appears that your readings are within 10 percent ....maybe that's not bad, I don't know if there is any type of working range with the "live" info. Don't jump to conclusions, especially since ya have a modified powertrain. Try the scanner on a friend's car and verify the accuracy of how it reads "live" data. IDK, but good luck man !!!

Hmm, thanks for the suggestions. I think you're right that less than 10% at idle is in spec, but I don't know about at WOT.
I hope I'm not losing power up top because of the TPS. Oh well, it doesn't seem to be an adjustable TPS anyways.

Actually our TPS is adjustable to an extent, by using a multi-meter to adjust the settings. I've never had the need to do it, but try a search for more info. Just keep in mind that with it's location on the TB....a lot of factors could be playing into the readings if it's the original sensor. Acura wants ya to buy the complete TB assembly, but the sensor is replaceable with some effort.
Does your car feel as though it's losing power ? Could be many other things !!!

Yea you can adjust the TPS with a multimeter. I've replaced mine when fixing the CEL I got for it being out of spec and because it was broken. I didn't remove the TB either. The specs are supposed to be .45 volts. You can test by touching the black wire from the multimeter to body ground and the red wire into the middle wire of the TPS (there are 3), you kind of have to poke it in so it touches the wire to give the reading (with key on engine off position). But its supposed to be .45 volts. Here's a link that tells you how to adjust and everything you need to do to replace it.

Yeah, this site provides an aftermarket replaceable TPS you can install on your Acura 3.2 TL 1996-2003. You no longer have to replace the whole throttle body. Nice to know!

Here is a DIY on installing one and adjusting it as well.

But having posted that, i have 3 stock Tbs that i have played with and not a single one of them can i get to 100% WOT without throwing the CEL for a High Voltage code. All were/are around 6-10% closed and 89-94 WOT from the factory

Yea, I think that's just what they are supposed to read. Maybe they purposely have a little bit of cushion zone so they don't throw voltage codes as they age over the years.
Super great info on the TPS !!!
thanks.
This thread may be useful in the "DIY" sticky, imo.
I'll bet alot of the original sensors are getting to be on the edge, considering their age and being subjected to it's location exposed to harsh operating conditions. Perhaps an iffy TPS could possibly account for poor running and mpg on our aging TL's.
Something to look at, if all else fails.

9.4% is what mine says, I read in the service manual ''about 10%'' so as long as you don't have a code or drivability issues its fine. When I got my scanner and saw that I was concerned as well.
