Thoughts on Racingbrake ET500

I was wondering if i should get the ET500 or just stick with the ET300 that I've read some people recommend. I'm currently using EBC Redstuff right now.

how do you like to brake?,,gentle, early in town a lot, and freeway commute-
or late madman brake and dive to the apex?

( I see your mods so this is a general question for others reading--you want the 500s)

the 300s are middle range/gentler bite- wife appreciates the amazing grip on demand from 80mph to 20~ when not paying attention and freeway stops...
plus the around town ease, no noise, low dusting (wax your rims to help that)

the 500s are said to have more initial bite, meaning the forces upon your body on brake application may be increased..
according to everyone running them they are major stoppers

I plan to upgrade to them since I wore out the 300s from ~severe abuse~

Of course RB pads are the best to use on their rotors- the pads are extra hard to stand up to the rotors,,which tend to eat pads like hawk,,
I know from experience!

I dont see what rotors you have now-
but if RB are in your budget, single piece, get them!!
along with SS brake lines and Legend calipers. will make your TL outstop many other cars on the road

im still on stock rotors right now, i believe they are warped from the vibration in my steering wheel when i brake. not to sure what to get next, my budget is limit due to being a college student. if i can get the legend calipers then i probably will.

with shake you need rotors

forget better calipers until there is a smooth work surface
you can buy RB rotors for the cost of legend calipers

stock rotors and et500s = you will need rotors before long--those are hard pads!!
I thought you were on performance rotors of some sort already

I don't know about these specifically, but I know generally the more aggressive the pads the more exercise they need before they are up to maximum stopping ability. So if you were to be cruising on the highway for a while and then panic-brake, you may not stop as well with a more aggressive pad. Once they get heated up, they will be way better.

the ET500 are fine from normal ambient temps up to track day temps
ice cold outside??? I would use them a few times to warm,
but once you are moving and tap the brakes- they are at 100 degree- they will be fine from that temp on

Just running down the freeway there is temp from the axle being released thru the rotors

Ya, I was wondering about that. I wasn't sure just how hot they had to get.

I am running ET500 pads right now. They replaced EBC green stuff pads. Also, I was running EBC slotted rotors and replaced them with R1 Concepts premium blank rotors (More surface area for the pad to bite vs. slotted rotors). They have been quiet and have provided great stopping power; even when cold. If you need rotors, which it sounds like you do, I would look at the R1 Concepts premium blank or the Centric premium blank rotors (they are the same rotor). The blanks w/ ET500 pads out stop the slotted rotors I had. The slotted rotors also ate through pads like crazy.

I believe, by definition, that a rotor that eats more pad is providing more friction. I'm not questioning your conclusion, but I don't think you've quite identified the reason.

the rotor side slots are for excess pad outgassing under extreme conditions
that expansion of gasses can push the pads right off the rotor! with your foot buried on the pedal~
Average person= its total bling, amount of reduced surface area,,not a big issue for us

quality of rotors varies with makers,,lifespan varies with that mettalurgy

note on most brands,,the slots dont go to the edge,,just a place for gas to hang out a split second until rotor passes the pads and has open atmosphere

feel the slots- they dont have a sharp edge as many think, or at least good quality ones dont..they scrub off road debris and a micro amount of pad--if out of round as brakes are applied- but their main purpose is to provide that space for gas released from hot pads
thats not the same as shaving off 1mm every use!

excellent braking comes from friction, friction is converted to heat, heat gets extracted,,
parts are going to wear out!!
performance parts also get driven harder so lower life can be expected
