For those wanting a hitch

I just bought one from homeontheroad.org for $41.95, and $18.02 for shipping. This is for a drawtite model 24730 for all 1999-2003 TLs. Most other places are selling them for $75 - $100. Just thought I would pass it along.

ok i just visited the website..

I don't think you'll be worried about saving money on a hitch when your forking out 4k+ for a new tranny.

if your smart, when you go to the dealership for a trans... remove the tow hitch..

Never had a problem with the dealer with mine on. And it wont kill the tranny faster. after 4 trannies and towing with some and not with others the one that lasted the longest was with towing

Ya, I have had my hitch on the car from the summer i bought it back in 2000 and use it all summer to tow my jetski and bike. Never had a problem and the dealer didn't even mention it when i had my tranny problems arount 60k.

Not going to tow with it

I'm only putting it on so I can use my receiver hitch bike rack. I don't like the trunk style racks. I'll use my Expedition to tow.

I just did a search to find this post on the forum. I just bought an 04 Honda Aquatrax F-12X, and I really DON'T want to put a hitch on the TL w/ all the tranny problems--plus I don't want it sticking out on the back. Anyhow, I see from what most of you say it tows well and the tranny may or may not go out either way. My old boss at the dealership is now the Acura service manager; and I still have my contacts there, so if my tranny craps I'm under the 7/100 still and if I weren't they'd warranty it anyway. The lead Acura tech told me when I worked there that he didn't recommend it though. The ski and trailer probably weigh only around 1000 pounds...ski is 792, dunno about the trailer. If I do end up getting one--what kind...and I want a hideaway kind so it doesn't look ugly from the back. Relying on my roommate or dad to use their SUVs to put it in the water sucks. I guess if fsttyms put one on, then it's OK! Also, when towing, what gear do you use--D4, D3, low gears? I can't afford a cheap beater truck to tow it w/...just spent all the $$ on this and I don't want to have to trade the TL for an MDX.

After posting my last message, I found a Hidden Hitch class 1 for like 75 bucks on one site, and I don't have to tear up the car, drill holes, or anything...bolts on and off in 15 min. The trailer/ski weigh 985 total....I just think I'll jinx myself and the tranny will crap 1st time I tow the ski w/ it. Any of you have these on your TL's and how to they work out?

I have the hidden hitch. Its designed to fit with the oem body kit so if you dont have it its a little more visible, but not bad.
This isnt a very good pic. From behind its really not that bad (especially if you remove the big white sticker)

Yes, no cutting or welding. Just bolted on. Dont know why you would want to take it on and off

Talking

Yeah I also hate borrowing friends or parents or their SUVs to tow the ski. I think I'll get that hidden hitch if I do get one. I gotta keep the TL for at least 3 more years until I upgrade to a newer RL, so I want to keep it pristine. I'm going to avoid towing it as much as possible--only when I can't use someone else's car and i don't want to miss out on riding. I'll definitely get the bolt on kind so I don't have to tear the car up and drill in the trunk pan and all that. As for the dealer, I'm not worried, I have buddies/ex-coworkers there so all I have to do is call them up and get them to order me a new tranny if I need one.

Its not bad. most times you dont even notice it, plus like i said if you have a kit its not that noticible.
mine pulled my boat out and jet skis many times with out issues on boat landings (even gravel ones)

when it wants to go itll just go no matter how you take care of it.... you never know when its heating up too much which i believe is the problem...plus...towing a jetski = 1000 ... carrying 4 passengers + beers in cooler for beach = 1000 .. sooooooo
