For those with SS OBX headers

Hi all,

My buddy and I just installed a set of SS OBX headers in my 2002 TLS this past weekend, and I noticed now there is a growl/grinding sound when I turn the ignition.

Is this normal? I do not have a CAI, just the headers (so far).

Also, I have resonance anywhere from 2500 to 2900 rpm from acceleration from stop. Is this normal also? I've only read people having resonance issues at 2900 rpm.

Thanks in advance.

I only have a slight resonance problem around 27-2900 RPM. I do not have any type of grinding sound when I start her.

oh ... the obx woes....

resonance is common in the entire range... some have it in multiple rpms bands... start up growl may be leaky headers... though you should hear a leak throughout the powerband... check gaskets?

Actually, I DO hear resonance at around 1500 rpm also.
What do leaky headers sound like? I've popped the hood and listened for ticking and revved the engine, but don't hear anything out of the ordinary.

At any rate, flooring it at 75 mph is CRAZY. The car freaking pulls!

I'm putting in the icebox this weekend. Maybe it'll help out with the resonance? Too bad I didnt' get one of those resosnance free ones that some people got on this forum. It would have been nice to have a comletely stock sounding TL with an extra 30 or so horses.

Funny thing is that I kinda like the resonance at about 2500-3000 rpms. Obviously this is normal. I sometimes notice the resonance at 1500 but its very low and I am rarely at that rpm.

Not sure about the grinding sound. My car pretty much starts the same as it did pre-headers...might take a turn or two more.

And yes, the car does pull harder!
