those with DW1 ATF

so how is your car doing with the new synthetic honda atf? i have +10,000km on them now and shifting is very smooth compared to before. i am on original transmission with no issues since i bought the car new. only problem still is off throttle jolt in low speeds when the torque converter unlocks and rpm dips to 700rpm for a second. but that's normal with most torque converters with lockup. shift times are very quick as well (i think the quickest in all automatics i owned in normal D mode). car downshifts as soon as i apply some extra throttle. very responsive and so im happy with dw1. just that its a bit damn expensive. previous atf-z1 used to overheat in summer time and car started shifting horribly, waiting for higher tempratures to test this one

I've had the DW-1 in for about a year now and have done about 5 drains of 3L since then. I also changed the trans filter. Car runs great without any hiccups. Very smooth shifting. Oh, I also changed out the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches just to be safe.

good call on clean or replace the shift selenoid/pressure switches
AND replace our little known external atf filter,, beck/arnley has a good price on them

at least we dont have to drop the pan to reach it!

its the little things that affect pressure = shifting smoothness
a/t works on pressures

for those waiting on my guru buddys `super trans cleaner` info= he says cures acura shift shudder:

its `motor purr` for trans
kragen used to carry- oreilly may still
some auto repair shops have it--thats who all their products were marketed to in the 80s-90s,,call performance shops and ask

We used their fuel cleaner and spray carb cleaners at the shop for years,,awesome products
Just ran a bottle of fuel cleaner thru 1/2 tank on the TL
buddy still had that- but no trans cleaner, so its search time for me

Others have reported `seafoam trans tune` to work excellent, I would trust it
based on seafoams record

Either product- do 200 miles driving and expect black fluid to exit!!
the engine runnning/trans thru gears `accord method` of fluid change may be a wiser choice to get the loosened crud out
then clean shift selenoids and replace atf filter,, after the crud has hit it hard!

happy with my fill of DW-1, also experiencing quicker shifts. Shift quality is very consistent, from the moment i start the car and drive it cold, to hot temps it is very consistent. Z1 used to be very rough at cold temps and at high temps it would take longer to shift. DW-1 seems to be doing the trick for me, cant be more happy. I think a lot has to do with the thinner viscosity of DW-1, it flows faster and does not generate as much heat. Its partial syn properties might have an edge on dissipating heat, but i think the syn properties help it stay in viscosity grade at higher temps.

So, honda screwed up the transmissions, they came up with this new fluid, like $10 qrt, and the consumers are paying for it. That doesnt sound right to me. The new fluid should have a low price to accommodate the problems.

How about "you should only use honda fluid", and Honda ...hmm, let's make it 19.99 dollars a quart. Honda is making it cheaper and cheaper with their quality, so dont be fooled with the honda name. I am spending my time and money on having atf serviced more frequently, and honda should pay for that, why? they should read their own manual in English.

I was ordering other parts from estore Acura, but they don't ship fluid, and calling them if they can get online pricing plus I was getting 1 case. I was able to get $6.50 a quart in CA. It's a bit saving calling the part dept this way.

As for DW1, start the 3x3 drain, it does feel a bit smooth from 2rd to 3th. Mine is in 170K original tranny. But I see small tiny leak from the right axle. Is it a DIY on the leak & changing the tranny filter?

Thanks for the feedbacks. 6.50 is a fair price, but most of them go $9 + tax each. For the axle leaks, it could be just coincident and you will have to have the seal replaced. For the transmission filter, it is very easy to do as long as you have the right offset tool, I think, 5 degree offset. Take a look at this,

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...er+replacement

use this filter, buy 2 if you plan to keep the car; each filter is good for up to 60k I think; i got mine at dealer for 40 bucks and it is basically the same.
