Those Damn G35's!!
Those Damn G35's!!
First of all, I hate the Infiniti G35. I was going to get one before sitting in my boy's TL-S when I was picking a car out last year, and I decided to join the Acura family. A great decision indeed. But I can't seem to beat any of these damn cars on the street!
First of all, about 4 months ago (before I got a box in my trunk), I raced a G35 Coupe with a 6spd manual, and he beat me by approximately 2 car lengths. It was no contest, I was ashamed of myself because it was the first time I ever lost a race. This guy was a real punk too, he was almost toying with me on the street. I had to do the loser flyby afterwards, which made it worse!
Then last night, I went up against a G35 sedan. Now, I have a heavy system in my trunk, so that adds considerable weight on. We happened to meet up at three different places on the street, as we were both going to the same place (L&B Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn, New Yorkers know the deal). First light, I took him with no contest, as he wasn't sure if he wanted to race. The last two lights, my front nose was on his back doors, so he beat me by about .5 car lengths both times. Those things are fast as hell, the 260 lb/ft of torque in that bad boy really pushes it over the top against our TL-S's. Bad enough I lost, my ex-girlfriend was in the back seat of that kid's car along with her 2 friends! Damnit!
So here's my question. What are your stories with these cars, both the coupe and the sedan. Has anyone beaten one of these stock? I know the horsepower is equal, but I'm guessing the extra 28 lb/ft of torque in this situation makes up for it.
THAT'S IT, I'M GETTING A GOD DAMN INJEN CAI AND AN AIR FILTER AND I'M GOING TO KILL THAT BASTARD NEXT TIME I SEE HIM!! WHOO!!

Sorry bud...but you'll need more than a CAI for you to do any good. Sometimes you just have to accept the fact and not run races you know you can't win.Sucks to hear about your ex-GF...albeit it did give me a good laugh at the office.

Then again it won't really matter once THEY start modding their G35s.
The key is to mod your car just enough so that it still "looks" stock. THEN you give them a suprise once you start passing them in 3rd gear.

Took my friend's G35 sedan at the track once. The RWD really helps it take off but based on many of our runs together, the 3rd gear in our car is a bit stronger than theirs. BTW, at the track I ran a 14.7 and he did 14.9. First time at the track for me. On the street, most G35 sedans I see are driven by older folks. I do run into a few occasionally that want to play but most of the time I can't beat one fair and square and they can't beat me.
However, after my recent Comptech Icebox install, I ran into one and pulled on it about a carlength on the highway. I'm not making any conclusions yet because it could have been a fluke. We'll see how I do next time.

From my experiences with a friend with a G35 auto sedan, its a really close race with the TL-S. But like Vandy786 said, our 3rd gear is a bit stronger than theirs. A race off the line is usually a toss up, but if you can stay even till 70 mph, you will walk a G35 auto.

I was on the highway once with a G35 Sedan (the 260hp version) and with my Icebox as the only "performance" mod to boost hp, I was able to keep up with him no problem ... A 6spd G35 Sedan would be tougher without more mods though.
The G35 Coupe is a different story. A stock G35 Coupe Auto would probably be an even match for the TL-S with Intake+Headers, but a G35 Coupe 6spd would still be a tough one to kill unless you've got some nice sticky tires and maybe a few extra performance mods like the UniChip and the Unorthodox pullies. Even then you'd probably lose up top (above 100mph). Spraying or the S/C would be the easiest of course..

Nissan has come a long way with their G35 and still improving it. It appears that they listen to customer feedback and introduce products according to what they think their loyal customers ask for. Honda on the other hand uses their "tried and true" product concept without realizing that their products have stagnated and needs renewing.
Despite how much power your mods can extract, you just come closer to the limits of what FWD can really give. After that, it's a point of diminishing return.
Traded in my TLS last week for a G35 Coupe 6 speed. Even with the CAI, OBX headers, and Comptech exhaust the 6 speed G35 Coupe still feels noticeabley stronger because of the extra torque. The rear drive and Pilot Sport tires also helps it off the line. The auto G35 does not feel quite as strong.
I find once my car with 225 HP on the highway get into the high RPM's. .... I can keep up or beat the best of them. Try beating these guys on the open road where the HONDA power plants can stretch its legs.

Those cars are really fast and there's tons of mods for them. I actually wish at the time when I bought my TL the G35 coupe was out. I think I would have bought that. That car is so sweet!!

Yeah, and as for the car, it's an awesome looking car, there's no doubt about that. Unfortunately when there's 12 inches of snow on the ground during the winter and I need to get my ass to school or the train station, we realize why we all got a FWD car with 260 stock horses. Or at least that's my reasoning.
But back to the topic, those G35's are wicked fast!
i've raced a few G35 sedans and I've beaten them, I don't think any of them were modded or were even stick. I've never came across the coupe yet but I look forward to it. I think I can at least make it a good race, even if I lose.

Hey im in Bensonhurst... this is lucid4000's friend. If you see me in BK im more than happy to give you a chance at another 6mt Coupe
but I bet Lucid4000 already knows the outcome.
There is actually a guy around here with a CL-S who was able to hang with me... but he had Exhaust intake chip and god knows what else.

350hp is easy and 450hp is a stretch but very possible. Depends on pockets.
ill post some more pics a lil later ... but in regards to the Force Induction on the VQ motors... Greddy , APS, and Several other have TT kits for the Z and G35, in terms of Superchargers, ATI, Vortech, HKS (just released) and Stillen (roots type blower). The motors that have been destroyed are by the Greddy Set Ups and ATI, and I just heard of 1 Vortech Kit going bad... the big issue with the ATI and Greddy Set ups are that there is NO timing retard built into the systems. Vortech and Stillen and i assume HKS all have Timing Retard built into the piggy back ECU's. When I get some extra money im calling Stillen and getting my blower from them...

Good Luck beating a G35 coupe, even with all teh bolts ons, they still have more torque, and a much better set of gear ratios to work with.

Its similar to how Honda has their "universal" platforms that can build a bunch of different cars on them.. Nissan just does it with their engines.
Hate to bring more bad news guys but infiniti is at it again, there response to the new TL --> the new G35, the sedan http://nissannews.com/multimedia/inf..._g35_sedan.jpg, with different front facia , just like the coupe, 18 forged wheels (option), 277 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque (from 260 hp/260 lb-ft). And if that wasnt enough the coupe is getting new sport-tuned suspension, Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (V-LSD), 19-inch forged aluminum-alloy wheels and drilled aluminum pedals. The Sport 6MT model receives an additional 15-plus horsepower over automatic-equipped G35 coupe’s standard 280 horsepower, bringing its power to the 295-horsepower range (final figures to be released later). I think the are shooting for 300 to make things even. We have to realize that the 350z has 287 hourses and this is gonna b 13 more than that woah, its only gettin tougher to spank them G35z
. And these new figures are without any mods.

The 05 G35 is gonna be hella fast!
The only way to cream them (in stock form) would be standard mods (I/H/E/P) + 3.5L upgrade.
The G35 is a really nice looking car, I just hate the interior. If the 05 model can make the interior more attractive and palatable, I just might spring for the G35. Hmm...

I have an 03 G35 (6MT) Coupe and a '00 TL (not S). They both have their place. Both accelerate with "authority". But the minute you turn the wheel, it's not a fair comparison. The G35 handles better by far. And braking - the G35 stops so fast (and so smoothly) that your eyeballs will pop out of your head and you'll have to go hunting for them on the floor...
Hey can someone do me a favor and go to this thread and tell this guy that he's been smokins some good $hit because he claim that he took a g35 Coupe

I/H/P/E/VAFC 3.5litre upgraded comptech supercharged portnpolished head and je pistons should run 13.5 or less and with 100 wet shot maybe 12.8
all that stuff is damn expensive though, but Austin is the closest to getting there.
