Third Gen Tranny same as 2nd?

Yo,

I find it very interesting that the '04 TL's have the same oil jet recall as us 99-03 TL's. People on this board are running scared from 2nd Gen TL's because of potential tranny prob's, and the '04 has the same recall!! Being an '03 owner, I'm glad I didn't succumb to the desire of trading in for the '04 because of the tranny.

I'm also hearing about rear tires wearing down at amazing rates due to suspension geometry probs in the '04, driveline vibrations, and other minor quibbles that most cars have.

It goes to show you, if you want the most reliable car you can have for the money, buy Japanese, and don't by the first year of a new generation, and hope for a little luck.

Lastly, my '03 TL-S went 65,000km flawlessly, including towing a trailer with two dirt bikes frequently in the summer, as well as my family of five in the car, and the trunk rammed to the max on a regular basis. It's only now had the oil jet recall done. No probs at all... Any thoughts?

Dirk Diggler.

I don't know. I have a 2004 TL and I intend on spending the $1500-$2000 for the extended 100k warranty when the time comes. So if my tranny dies like 2-4 times it'll be worth it lol.

I have to say that my 04 tranny is not as aggressive as the one on my Type S. It seems as if Acura programmed the ECU a bit less agressively so as to possibly avoid tranny problems.

The recall isn't for all the G3's, it's only for the 04's w/ VIN numbers ending in 7000 (if I remember right) and lower. Externally everything is pretty much the same on the trans., with minor changes to the dipstick placement, hardline routing, etc. Supposedly the internals have been changed and "shouldn't" display the same problems as the G2's.
