Thinking of buying 2000 TL -- help?

Sorry for the newbie question, but I'm thinking of buying a 2000 TL. After checking out some of the posts here, however, it seems to be a bad idea. I'd have no significant warranty coverage other than the extended tranny warranty from Acura. It's got 44,000 miles, is in great shape, and I love the way it drives. I'm just wondering if I'm setting myself up for major problems in the future. Any thoughts? Thanks for the help. (The car seemed like a steal at $18k.)

Thanks,
Mike

i got my 2001 tl-p for around 16,000 . It has 52,000 miles on it. I also talked the lady into giving me a 3-year 36,000 mile lexus premium warranty. It's not factory because I am over 50,000 miles but it still is ok. I just got it a month ago, no problems, tranny was replaced in december. Get the VIN off the car and call a dealership so they can tell you whether there have been any transmission replacements, etc...

18 i think is way too high, especially if you check nada guides.

Its not a great price. Is it certified? If so, it should be around $16k

Not certified. It's from a non-Acura dealer. I think we could bring them down quite a bit, so $16k is probably doable, and maybe I could get them to throw in a warranty. But even with a warranty, I'm a little worried about all the tranny problems that have been discussed on this site.

Thanks a lot for the responses, guys. I really appreciate it. I have a 95 Legend that has been fantastic, and I'm surprised they're having such problems with the TLs.

i had a 91 legend until a few months ago, loved that car!

The tranny problems are being taken care of, like I said, get the VIN and call the dealer for info on the car.

I have a '00 tl and i still love it----i did have the tranny replaced at 30,000 miles (under warranty mind you), cuz the engine would shift akwardly...but haven't had any major problems since...

does anyone else feel like they have to replace their rotors alittle more frequently with their tl than w/ other cars? Maybe its just me...

I think we may well go with the 2000TL if we can get the right price. The extended warranty gives me a little peace of mind -- three years or 100k miles gives us a lot of time.
