I just got my Apex-i V-AFC dyno tuned at Naka's Car Care(If any Hawaii guys want to dyno tune their V-AFC, go to Allen, he know the Apex-USA guys personally)
Allen spent the whole day dyno tuning my car and with repeated calls to Apex-USA, with questions about the settings and with about 10 dyno runs.............
Remember that every car runs differently and must be tuned to their own car.
There was only (1) significant difference.........
The V-Tec engagement setting
This setting allows you to adjust when you want the V-Tec to switch from the LO cam to the HI cam.
Factory setting is 4500rpm(If I remember correctly) when the cams switches over you lose some horsepower.
After many runs, Allen set the V-Tec engagemnet point at 4300rpm with this setting compared to the factory setting at 4500rpm, I gained 25 HP's(remember HP gained at that point and not over all HP gained) because he got rid of the HP loss when the cams switch over(LO-HI), so instead of any HP loss, it has a smooth gain with no loss of HP's at the engagement point.
As for the rest of the settings....
It had no effects what so ever, he tried different settings and nothing really changed the power curve, it was smooth on every run. The guys at Apex-USA said that the V-AFC unit was created for cars with Turbos and Superchargers, In order for them to tune their car for the track use and down tune it for street use, which makes sense to me.
In conclusion
Besides looking frickin really cool
and that you can change the V-Tec engagement point, was it worth it??
IMO, Yes and No
Yes because it smoothed out the HP gain, one of the the few mods out for our TL's
and did I mention that it looks frickin really cool
Also if you are thinking of getting the CompTech SuperCharger, this unit is a good investment.
No because it's not cheap to install and dyno tune!!! install was free for me but I would imagine it would cost some where between $50-$100 and my dyno tune was $250 sounds high but he spent the whole day on it.
I am very satisfied with this unit and it looks frickin really cool

I hear ya bro. After I got the VAFC tuned, the only difference I noticed was the turbo effect gone. Before tuning, my HP curve was like 150 to 190 or something like that from 4400 to 4500. They set my VTEC to 4300 also and the power curve got much smoother. I agree, worth it and not worth it.

Tanner,
Any modifications made to the V-AFC to take into account the nitrous?

Interesting, interesting...
So what did he set the rest of the settings to? Can you post it? If they really don't make much difference in power, could they possibly increase gas mileage? There are no other gains from the settings other than VTEC engagement RPM?
My V-AFC and Solaris 9005s should be here Tuesday!

Ya know Tanner, that all we have to do is take your settings and use them for our VAFC's since we have identical cars...
There's not THAT much variance between different vehicles of the same model.
So tuning is basically free once there's someone out there who does a good job with it.

Yep, It looks frickin really cool

I'll get the setting and post them for you.
NSXNEXT,
since I have a NOS dry kit and they said that it works well with a non-modded car, I decided to change the plugs only(2 down colder and 1 down on the gap).
I'm also going to try to see if I can get better gas mileage!! anyone has suggestions???
