Thinking about purchasing a TL

Hey guys, Im recently turned 16 and I am aiming to purchase my first car by this spring. I've been interested in the TL for a while now and i know a guy who had a 99. He said that it was very reliable and that I should take it into serious consideration when purchasing a car. What are the pro's and cons for the TL? Would it be a good buy for a new driver like myself, and also I live in New England and the winters here get pretty nasty so would that affect anything? Thanks for the input.

i have a shit load of issues with my 2000 TL like
- 1 tranny went bad
- bad motor mounts (all of them)
- shitty paint
- warping rotors ( twice so far)
- 1 pulley went bad
- stalling after the car was hot, but that went away
- retarded windshield wipers
- brakelight went bad switch twice
- SRS messing up a few times

there might be more, but i still love my car lol

What's the deal with the transmission? Is it going to be a big problem? and also is this car going to be ok in snowy weather? I have my driveway is pretty steep so am i going to be able to get up it without any problems considering its FWD?

As others have suggested, try a search of the forum. The terms "transmission" and "failure" will give you many threads.

But here's a good one to get you started:

The transmission failure is like a lotto drawing and it can happen but which car out there do you see that has not have a problem or two. The TL's main problem is in the transmission and if if the TL you are getting has a clean title then your warranty is fine. The warranty is I believe 100k and 7 years for the transmission. Now if you buy a car with a title on it then your warranty will be voided. So just be cautious and carfax the car for the sake of the title.

for piece of mind avoid buying one over 100k miles. other than that you cant go wrong with the tl. a good alternative for a bit cheaper though is a 2000-2003 maxima (2000 max was my first car before i sold it)... but as long as money isnt an issue go for the tl.

I really like the oem front lip and side skirts, and the ww rear skirt. Do you think it'd be hard to find a car with at least 2 of those on already?
