Question Think you could powder coat the plastic engine cover

It takes a lot of heat sitting on top of the intake manifold. I think powder coating it would look really good.

Any thoughts?

I think it all depends on what color. What color are you thinking about painting it?

Thanks Dank. What is dbu car paint? Is that a brand? Never heard of it before. Where did you get it?

Aren't you afraid of the paint or clear coat coming off from the heat?

I actually want to paint the center piece on my 99, the piece that looks like the intake manifold, either the silver to match my car color, or red to match my AEM CAI.

Anytime Tom...

Just painted my OEM strut bar metallic silver. It matches the car really nice.

Not yet but since you have too much time on your hands, I'll send them to you so you can put it back for me (painted also).

Fiddler or Dank, did you have to sand the pieces so the paint would bond?

My car is black so theres not much to paint under the hood, unless i start painting things silver.

My buddy said he'd powder coat my OEM mufflers for free. I don't use them. Maybe I could sell them on ebay.

I didnt.. if u think about it, aside from the heat, there's not much wear under there.. not like outside parts. So of course sanding would make it stick better, but it's just fine w/o it

I used automotive spray paint by Plasti-Kote.

I just washed the pieces and then compounded them slightly. Put on like 4 wet coats to match the color then put on 2 coats of Clear coat. Don't woory too much about heat. Those pieces are plastic and if it were that hot, they would have a problem in general.

It's plastic, you can only powdercoat things that can take the baking in the oven. Just get high temp paint, it will look good.
