Post Headlight ripped off.

Thank god it wasn't mine, but someone in our office complex had an HID ripped out of their TL. Stay out of Woodbridge, NJ with your HIDs!

How do they take them out? My friend who works for an Acura dealership said they can just pull it right out. No need to open the hood. Is there something we can put behind the assembly so they would have a hard time taking it?

That has got to be the weakest crap i've ever heard. People stealing headlights? what's next? If someone touched my car i'd hunt them down and crack them over the head with a 2x4

Great - How long will it be before our insurance rates go up because of the risk of theft?

That's kind of incentive enough to buy an aftermarket alarm with a sensative shock sensor.....

How about just an aftermarket system that send an insensitive shock when they touch my headlights ? I'd hook it up to the HID High Voltage line...maybe that will keep them away

That will only piss off the offender more, and you'll likely see even more damage to your TL as they try to force off your HIDs. I'm sure if they can't get it, they bust up your HIDs and more. The only solution, I think, is to watch where you park. And buy comprehensive insurance...

Just got my car back with the HID lights installed after 3 weeks. The total was $3300. Now I cant even park the car on the street regardless day or night from the fear of being ripped off again. How do they move the HID lights without opening the hood you ask ? It's simple. All they have to do just rip out the front bumper (how cheesy it is) and unscrew the fend used to keep the HID in place. And then use the crow bar to pry the tip of the side wall (where the corner of the hood and the side of the body meets) and there's a screw beneath it. Unscrew it....Voala. I swear if I ever catch anyone who touches my car, you know that the world population is one person less that day.

They put the HID in their Civics. The main part they need is the ballast to ignite the bulb.

Thumbs down

when i went to park ave. i saw 2 car that wayne was talkin bout, and one had the hood around the headlights ripped up so they can access it, the other, bumper was pushed down like it was in a collision, when i had to remove my headlight to clear them out i saw that the brackets that held the headlight in place were made out of plastic very easy to break.... probaly so many ways not even funny no more....
anyone think that most of these thefts are from single individuals, or some sort of rice boy gangs all in it together??

I think the reason that TL's HID get stolen the most because, EVERY TL has it, and it can be fit on Accord or some other Honda car.
Theft does not have to determine if the car come with HID or not, because they already know the answer, unlike BMW, Mercedes and Audi, HID is an option on those car. It is hard to tell by just looking the lens.

It's happening so often in NJ that I'm sure these are organized hits and the parts are getting shipped out of here.

Acura uses plastic to hold these in?!? Jeez.

question for wayneg or anyone who knows prices of an HID light:
Can a Civic or an Accord buy & install a Stock Acura HID light so that it looked like a TL? If so how much? I saw $3300 but I'm sure it includes the price of fixing the bumper as well. Thanks

I believe Lexus and Bimmers are being affected as well, but Acura seems to be the most popular target at this time.....
