My last two trannys would downshift at WOT and really throw me back in my seat .. this new one... if I WOT downshift in D5 .. it'll rev the engine up, shift very softly into the shorter gear, and ease me into the powerband... VTEC isn't as strong .. and there is no thrill to WOT at highway speeds .. the only fun I can have now is w/ SS and jumping on it after I've manually shifted to a lower gear.

I miss my aggressive 1-->2 shift from my previous two trannys. I miss that chirp. I miss the way my tranny would always seem to find and squeeze something outta second gear almost all the way up to 60mph when I WOT downshifted in D5... now.. it just lulls into 3rd gear and EASES me into the powerband..

what a complete let down. Hopefully my crank pulley will spark some life into this thing

I noticed the same thing at WOT on the HWY in our car. It seems to take a couple of seconds after it downshifts before it really starts to move.

 

"softly" is a good way to put it. Mine (also the third) seems to coax me from gear to gear. It's good for everyday driving, but I'm sure there is a power/efficiency loss associated with it (total seat-of-the-pants comment).

 

This is why I live in s/s anymore...
I will say the crank pulley does more to let the engine stay in the vtec range more than without...

Oh yeah, now that it is really cold here (40's and 50's with less than 50% humidity) the car spins like a mad bi+ch in second gear! God I love winter!

 

mine wobbles, as if it needs to disengage something. Then it downshifts from D5 to D4.

 

I also noticed the softer shifting. I noticed it when they did a PCM upgrade the last time I went in for some service. I'm on my 3rd tranny also and it doesn't feel as strong as the first in terms of seat of the pants acceleration. I am waiting to find a good shop to install the ur pulley to get into vtec faster. Hopefully that does the job.

 

1 thing you shouldn't like about your 3rd tranny is the fact that it's your 3rd!
