are they still having problems with replacement trannys?
well i had to replace mine recently, and the dealer told me that the new trannys are fixed and solved. If this is true i will be sticking with my car for a while longer, but if not i was planning on selling the tl. Anyone know of any recent tranny failures after getting an updated tranny?
thanks

Nope, no reported failures with the 02/2005 revisions. It's been over a year since mine was replaced with that revision and no problems yet. It does occasionally shift a little funny, but not as horribly so as the original one did.
My transmission was replaced 10/2005 at 47,000 miles.
I'm at 71,300 now and no problems.

when i first start driving my car before its warmed up it shifts hard... like it feels like the whole car rocks back and forth regardless of how hard im accelerating.... after its warmed up its ok for the most part but occasionally ill get that hard 2nd to 3rd upshift... it has me worried though... ps i replaced mine about a month ago and put about 1200 miles on it so far

^ Bring it back.... my transmission was replaced on my 02 TL at 25k and im now at 82k with no problems what so ever, quick D engagement and of course the really SMALL jerk when the car is cold, but that is completely normal, my girlfriends CL is the same way. They ALL shift slightly rough when cold.
i use to have the same problem. the trick is you guys are accelerating too fast when you are shifting. put it into gear and sit for a few seconds before you accelerate. problem solved

The oil jet recall was to add the oil jet to spray tranny fluid on the 2nd gear shaft for better cooling of it. The 2nd gear shaft had the possibility of overheating and breaking. If that happened while driving it would cause the wheels to lock up and complete loss of vehicle no matter what speed you were driving. Its what they inspect with the camera for discoloration. It would show a blueish ting on the shaft. If it showed that durring inspection they would replace the trans no questions asked. To my knowledge no one has had that failure on this forum.

i have an 01 cls and had the trans replaced in dec of 2004. i've only put ~14k miles on the car since then w/o problems. should i expect the trans to fail since it was before the 2/05 revision?

So when you guys went to go get your tranny replaced did they give you a huge song and dance before they agreed? My 03TLS shakes between 2nd and 3rd gear....around 25mph its annoyhing as sh*t. I'm assuming its my tranny...do you think they will replace it?

Now everyone talking about the 02/05 revisions tranny, but no one talks about what was updated. I bought a used transmission that was fu**ed up and it was a post 02/05 revision. I called the dealer and they said it was put into the car 09/05. The markings on the tranny indicate that it was remanufactured by Honda. Sure enough, when I replaced my tranny with that one, 3rd gear was fu**ed also. Wouldn't even shift out of 2nd. 3rd gear was gone. I bought it thinking since it was the new revision tranny, it would be ok. Anyways, you guys talk about the revisions have better clutch packs, wider fluid passages and new computer but no one knows any details about it. Like what materials did they use in the clutch frictions? Is it a thicker disc? Did they change the pattern of the frictions? Where in the transmission is the wider fluid passages? In the valve body? or in the accumulator body? how about the feed pipes? What did the change in the computer? Shift timing? Is it a reman computer with new chip? This information would be very helpful. I just think you guys need to back up your info. Like, I called a few different dealers asking specifics about the revision tranny. No one could tell me. They try feeding me a bunch of B.S. Sorry for being so anal...just kinda frustrated.

Did you buy that used transmission from a junk yard or a private party?
Did it have any sort of warranty? Was it taken from a car that was in a collision? Used transmissions are always a gamble.
On the specific changes apparently made by Acura in February of 2005, I have no idea. I think forum moderator fsttyms1 once described some of what changed. IIRC, he mentioned improved materials for the clutch pack.

Reading in Consumer Reports and in a few different forums the 3rd gen TL's have absolutely no troubles with their 5sp automatic transmissions. CS as a matter of fact gives the transmission in these cars their highest mark (yes I know that should be taken with a grain of salt.)
So for my own edification, is the "Post Feb 2005" transmission actually the same unit from the 3rd gen cars?
If you're in a car lot looking at a 2nd gen TL what is a quick method to tell which transmission is installed? Are there outside physical differences, or an information plate?
Yes I have used search, the answers to the above are not out there or easily found.

Are you still covered by the warranty?
