Theft Deterrent System

What type of theft deterrent system does the 2000 TL have? I am trying to get an insurance quote and need to know more information on what it does, etc. Does it have an alarm, does it disable the ignition, does it have a battery backup?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The 2000 ACURA TL has an Immobilizer System.
This is a properly coded master or valet key must be used in the ignition switch to start the engine. If another device such as screw driver ect. or improperly coded key is used the engines starting circut is disabled. If the car still has the factory radio it has the anti theft/ radio code. If the radio is diconnected from the car the horn will honk (not sure but thats what the manul say) the radio needs the code if diconnected. The Keyless Entry system has the panic alarm button that will sound horn & flash lights if pushed. If any door is open without disarming alarm the horn will honk. Thats about all the TL has not very much. Before I got my car over 3yrs ago many guys on the old old TL board most with 99 models said to have aftermarket alarm installed. I had my Clifford put in the day after I picked up my new 2000TL. The TL had less then the aftermarket alarm I had on my previous 94 ACCORD. The only good thing the TL has is it has the Immobilizer System.

This is great...thanks for your help. Fortunately, I don't live or work in a area that I really need to worry, but I might just make sure that I beef up the security a little bit.

Thanks again.

Good info, only I don't think the horn will honk if you remove the radio because I have done that on many cases. You just need to input the radio code when reinstall.

Iam going by the owners manual. Iit says the system also alarms if the radio is removed from the dashboard or wiring is cut. I think if the alsrm is set & if sombody gets into the car like breaking & crawling thru a window & disconnects the radio it will sound the horn while the alarm is set.

Ah my bad, I just realized now that all the times I took my HU out, the alarm was disarmed (DUH). So you're probably right.
