A thanksgiving drive

Im the kind of guy that likes to go for a drive.....just to enjoy a drive. Most of the time i am very easy driver, just enjoying the road. Today felt different. Thanksgiving had me in a good mood, and I needed to get out for a ride. Started out easy enough, but decided i wanted the most out of the car today. So starting from a roll at just a few mph, i put the pedal down. SNAP. Axle splinters into two pieces. Now as i wait for my tow truck, i give thanks.......that i work at an auto parts store and get parts at a very nice price.

Lol at least you can replace the part for cheap, thanksgiving is just giving a sign to enjoy the day without the car and with what matters most

Wow, hopefully the fact that I never go nice and easy on mine has done some form of tempering on my axles or something!! were these OEM? How many miles on these?

Maybe yours had a bad pair or they came from flawed materials. Everything is made with a tolerance so maybe you got a set that was made on a Friday lol.

Hmm that's weird and that sucks. Mine have over 190,000 miles on them and I take off from a stop quite a bit.

That's terrible! I'm glad to hear it's all fixed and back on the road.

Any input from any experts on how/why this happened?

Any number of things could/would have caused it. The sudden jolt of power, if they started to spin then found traction quickly, if the wheel started to hop (other wise known as axle hop), age along with possibly a defect. many things can cause them to break. I have snapped mine before just taking off from a stop light.

During the transition of the engine's powerful torque to the drive wheels, the weakest link will be tested !

In any FWD car, the driveaxles take a real beating. It's better to have them break......before the tranny !

Thats why I have traction off and let the wheels spinn every once in a blue moon lol
And can I call you for cheap parts from now on?

Definitely better the axle than the trans! I can replace an axle in no time, but i dont know bout a tranny. Ive never had the pleasure of working on an auto honda trans, only manuals.
