Question TCS?

I was driving on the snow today and did some experiments. I punched the gas half-way with my TCS on and the car did have tire slipage, but I didnt see the TCS light blink on. How severe does the tire slippage have to be in order for the light to turn on? I also turned off the TCS so the light stayed on and again half way throttled it and i felt the slippage but it felt different. I think the TCS is working but the light just isn't turning on. Also, I accerlerated somewhat on a turn and the car slipped alittle, i didn't think that the handling was great at all. I have stock tires and now know that they suck. Contemplating on getting some snow ones but not sure where to start looking? Any help.

Thumbs up

It seems 2 be different in different TL's. Some on the board say it comes on alot, some not. I don't get mine 2 come on all that much either! I decided to go to an all season type tire & I'm so glad I did. It is a different handling car in ALL aspects. Cornering, braking, stability, ride. The tires I choose are a little smaller HEIGHT than the original tires, but I DON'T care. They are great in the snow, & I LOVE them for all the other times. If u can afford, ck on some better/ different tires. You'll be glad u did! (check out pics on my site!)http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/lrpba300?d&.flabel=fld3&.src=ph. Good luck They are 225/50/16 & MPH is high readings

TCS isn't like 4 wheel drive. It isn't meant to help you in extreme conditions like snow. Bothe your tires were probably spining so fast it couldn't do anything to compensate, either that or it thought it was working (since it doesn't read the wheel info properly in such a situation) so the light didn't come on.

Remember that our TCS system is a low speed traction control system. It only works at about 22mph & below. I don't know what speed you were going. I had the chance last year real early to use my TCS. We had our first ice/snow day last year & I had only had the car 3weeks before we got this stuff.I mean busses were sliping & 4 wheel drives with bald tires. The system would blink on & off rapidly when my wheels were spining & I was at speeds below 20mph. As for the Snow Tires I got my MICHELIN ARCTIC ALPIN tires last month. I have them mounted on the stock wheels down in the basement.I got them from the Tire Rack they have a good selection of winter ties & wheels.

If from a standstill at a stop sign I proceed and drive over a manhole in the wet, the TCS light comes on from the slightest slippage...over 22 mph as stated above, is ineffective..

I second that motion on the Michelin Arctic Alpin .i had these on a rearwheel drive Nissan 240 SX and getting stuck in the snow with this lightweight car was not an issue in fact on more than a few occasions i found myself driving around frontwheel drive cars stuck in snow that did not even bother my Nissan.
